Hit ##786 dial to see what hardware version you have there are two versions. I have two t600 the first one is hardware REV A dated 9-10-2003 the other is REV B dated 9-20-2003.

Anyone know the difference between the two?

    Mine reads:
    Hardware Rev: Treo 600 x.y
The warranty date is 7-25-2003. This is a eval unit I got directly from Handspring, which may explain why the rev is missing.

You can find the revision information by just going to the phone home page, going to the options menu, and then selecting "Phone Info"

Mine has a warranty date of 10/10/2003 and a Hardware Version "C". (checked both the ## method and the phone info method). Hmmmmm.

Anyone have any idea what the revison numbers mean. Just curious. My revison "b" is perfect. NO issues at all.

    Thanks

I think I have found some differences between the two hardware revisions besides the revision numbers.

The one with the shinny metalic buttons that I refer to below is REV A.

The one with the dull plastic looking buttons is REV B.

1)If you look at the side buttons, the ones that control the ringer sounds, call sounds, etc. On one phone they are a metalic silver(almost like there is metalic paint on top of the plastic keys) on the other phone they are a dull silver(actually the dull color looks just like the plain plastic button and blends into the silver strip that they are housed in along the phone).

    2) The one with the plain plastic keys has a louder speaker but when you use the "swoosh" ringer at the 4th bar volume it sounds distorted the other phone sounds great at all levels when playing the swoosh ringer.

    3) The screen on the phone with the plastic buttons is slightly less bright than the other.

    4) When you tap a number on the dial pad and the phone is laying flat on the table you can hear it much louder with the plastic button phone vs the metalic button phone.

    5) The plastic button phone's sd card doesn't slide in perfectly unlike the other metalic phone which slides right in.

    6) The metalic button phone's five way pad has a little free play in the bezel where the plastic button phone's five way pad is very tight.

7)The keyboard on the metalic button phone is tight and you hear no squeaking when typing but on the plastic button phone the buttons squeaks slightly when you are typing using your two thumbs.

    8) I HAVE WAY TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS!

The metalic button phone is and older lot according to the serial number vs the plastic button phone, overall I think there must be some production changes taking place as they are being shipped. Any thoughts?

This is what my ##786 screen shows:

    Warranty Date: 10-10-2003
    Software Rev. Treo600-1.0-SPR
    Hardware Rev: C
    PRL Version: 10020

BTW, my Treo shows that it's Assembled in Mexico on the back of the phone. Where is yours made/assembled?

    Interesting!

I have an A with no problems.

It could have been during the manufacturing process, they found that screwing another part of the phone down was easier and faster, hence rev b. Also, they could have cost-reduced the design, like using cheaper buttons from another source, etc...

    I have Rev A, warranty date 9/11/03.

Mine seems brand new, just got it yesterday. Factory sealed in a bag in the box (unlike some people have mentioned).

    No problems here whatsoever

Maybe A is the final (better) version

Guys, don't be silly. It's called a hardware revision because it's hardware.

Your plastic keys won't turn into metallic keys by installing some firmware upgrade. You'd have to return the phone to sprint with some sort of excuse and get another one which is hopefully a newer revision.
