You can buy a Treo serial number on Ebay for 11.00 and use it to purchase a Treo 600 for $399 on the Handspring site without any contract commitment with Sprint. The offer is good until October 29, 2003 and the dealer has 22 serial numbers left at the time of this post. This is a good idea if you want a Treo 600 need to wait until November 24, 2003 when number portability goes into effect. Also a good idea if you want to join a family member's plan with Sprint and still get the phone for 399. If you did this the usual way through Sprint, you would be charged 549 for the phone.

Despite any concerns you might have, this works perfectly. I just bought my Treo 600 for $399 without a hitch - and no contract. When given a choice during the purchase process, do NOT go with the chocie that has you search for Sprint plans in your area. If you go with the other choice, it just lets you buy the phone without a contract.
