My Treo 600 just got here is charging up right now!

I anticipate using Pocket Tunes a great deal. I have two questions for TreoCentral members.

Which brand of SD card works best with Pocket Tunes? I did a search through TreoCentral post and found only the following:
    * SanDisk is the best price but does not work well with Pocket Tunes. Evidently it is too slow. I quess this means SanDisk's tranfer rate is too slow for Pocket Tunes to read mp3s off of well (this is pure speculation on my part)
    * Lexar works OK.

Can Pocket Tunes play .wma files? If not, is there any Palm OS software that can play wma files?

    Thanks for any input.

I bought the SimpleTech 512MB SD card from newegg..... they claim 10MB/Sec read and write..... It's more money than most, $250, but I wanted a fast card....

I used the VFSmark freeware app as suggested by PocketTunes (http://www.pocket-tunes.com/pockettunes/docs/faq.html).

    I've got a SanDisk 512MB SD in my 600.

    Results are as follows:

    File Create: 121%
    File Delete: 60%
    File Write: 47%
    File Read: 88%
    File Seek: 268%
    DB Export: 70%
    DB Import: 240%
    Record Access: 188%
    Resource Access: 185%

    VFSMark: 140

(I just ran the test once)

    The VFSmark info screen says:
"All test results are relative to a Palm m500 with a Palm 16MB SD card. Higher numbers are better. The VFSmark is an average of all the tests. The Palm m500 has a VFSMark of 100."

According to PocketTunes' website, they have found that cards with read speeds of 50% or less exhibit crackling or popping during music playback.

I bought a PNY 256 SD from Fry's. It was 74.99 with a 20 dollar revate. 54.99 can't be beat. I think the premium for 512 is too high right now.

I agree. Buying two 256mb cards is cheaper than one 512 card. Doesn't make sense.

Too bad this information is not available for disks BEFORE we go out and buy. Big difference in your results vs. Fikse's.

Online the sandisk 512mb card can be bought for $150. It claims a 9MB/Sec read and write vs.SimpleTech's 10mb/sec. Although the test results seems to indicate a bigger difference.

I was hoping someone would post results for this disk. Costco sells them for $65. Results look good. Now I will buy.

That where I got mine, plays mp3 just fine, but it takes way too long to get mp3 on the disk via hotsync, i may buy a card reader soon

I bought my SanDisk 256MB card at Costco, also. And I agree that a card reader is necessary. It took almost 20 minutes to load ONE MP3 via HotSync just to test PocketTunes and the card...geez!

    $74 @ Circuit City...

Why the big differences on same brand, are those not big differences? Just wondering

I don't think disk brand matters in the transfer speed as much as the USB 1.1 transfer cable the treo 600 uses. The bottleneck would be the cable.

Anyone got Lexar or PNY marks. I found a good deal ($60) at CompUSA for PNY 256. Amazon's cheapest 256 is a Lexar.

Cheapest USB 2.0 writer/reader I've found in a place where the shipping doesn't destroy the value is CompUSA (http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ct_code=301976)

Total cost should be $80 after rebate.

Pretty good for the cheapest card I could find. The write speed is a little disappointing though.

Check out buy.com. I bought a SanDisk 512mb last week for $154, no tax, no shipping and a $20 rebate for a final price of $134. I also had a coupon for another $10 from a prior purchase, for a $124 total, but even the $134 is really good.

Bought a Sandisk 256mb at Costco ($65). Just popped it in today, was recognized immediately. Installed PTunes and hotsynced over 2 MP3's. Everything worked like a charm.

Now just waiting for my headphone adaptor from HS (shipped yesterday) and need to buy an SD card reader/writer to speed up the moving of music files - very slow on the sync.

Got the PNY, but I'm kind of dissapointed with the write speeds. I'm thinking about returning it and getting a Simpletech, which I've heard good things about. Would be a bit more, though - about $75 after a $10 rebate...
