I checked out one of the model Treo 600's that were sent with the Mission Possible invitations. In case you haven't heard, these are non-working replicas that look and weigh just like the real thing.

All I can say is WOW! The size of the 600 is amazing!! Of course it was a dead model, but it had the right weight and looked real and had the famous flower picture on the screen.

The keyboard, which seems to be real, concerned me a bit. The keys are quite small and, more importantly, they didn't travel down much. Of course since I couldn't type for real, the feeling under the hand is not as important as the real accuracy which is helped by software eliminating surrounding key presses. Also the center button on the d-pad was too deep to easily press without pressing in one of the other directions. Since I didn't hear this from anyone who used the real thing, I'm going to have to assume that the keys on this model are close to the real thing but not exactly right.

In short, seeing this unit made me want one even more!! This is an amazing device and I predict it's going to be a great success!

They are three publicity events for the Treo 600 taking place in NY, Boston and San Francisco on the coming Thursday, Friday and Monday, respectively.

I have used the real thing (well a pre-production version) and the keyboard works great, even with my 'hammer' thumbs...
If I can use a thumb board, pretty much anybody can..
