Anyone know if the screen on the Treo will display pictures better than the 300? In other words, is it a 16bit screen with 65000 colors that can display high res? I've seen reports that indicate both versions, but cannot tell which is accurate. I would like to be able to display accurate, high quality pictures...

    any help appreciated!

Although I think the screen is larger than the 300, I am not sure if you can do 65k colors. On the emulator it allows 65536 colors. It also allows 128 MB RAM. I'm not sure if that is supposed to simulate the presence of a memory card, but I can't be too sure...try hunting around though, you never know.

The Treo 600's screen is definitely smaller in physical size than the 300's.

Actually, you people are all wrong! The Treo600 can only display pictures of Madonna and Britney kissing, but only with 12 colors, with a resolution of 1.5 and the size of a postage stamp.

The Treo600 has a 12 bit CSTN transflective screen with 160x160 rez and thus can show max 4,096 colors. The Treo300 also has a 12 bit 160x160 screen, however, many people on these forums claim that b/c the Treo600 screen is smaller resulting in great pixel density and lower dot pitch, image quality on the Treo600 will be better than the Treo300. It remains to be seen...

the 600 screen just looks smaller than the 300. there was a post in another thread of somebody that compared the two screens. okay, he measured it using a business card so it isn't scientifically proven ;-)

According to the Treo600DeveloperGuide.pdf ("Technical Reference Guide: Handspring Treo 600 Smartphone" dated July 21st 2003) that I have, the screen characteristics are as follows:

    Number of colours: 3375
    Technology: CSTN
    Definition: 160 x 160
    Size (cm x cm): 4.7 x 4.7
Size (lines): 14 (depending on font)

Note that this is labelled as a "Preliminary release" of the document, and it is possible, but unlikely that the above has changed.

That's kinda disappointing. The couple of days I had the Treo 300 I was kinda disappointed with the 4k screen.

I've actually seen the unit and I agree with this.
The screen looks quite good to me and I am used to a sony 320x480 screen...

The low color count is a bit disapointing, but I guess it is sacrificed for longer battery life...

The treo 600 screen looks heaps better than the Kyocera screen
I had them next to each other and the treo's screen looks a lot less pixalated..

Can anyone offer a good comparion of the Treo 300 vs Treo 600 in the screen area. Having just left the Sprint store and looking at the T300 and the lack of brightness I really would like a comparison there. Oh and they are still asked $399 for it too.
