Last night during an auspug meeting somebody who works for a local telco brought a pre-release Treo 600.

I have to say that I liked what I saw. Screen is not as bad as I expected, if you didnt know it was 160x160 you wouldnt tell straight away. Somebody else had the kryocera palm phone and even though the screens are about the same size the HS screen looks a lot less pixalated

The blue lights below the buttons gave it a funky look in the dark. The overall look and feel was pretty good too.

The owner of the machine told me that the software wasnt that stable, but that could be because it was a prerelease unit.
I played around with it for a couple of minutes and had no issues..

One intreging thing is the location of the SIM card. I was under the impression that it was supposed to be behind the little 'door' at the back, but it had a sort of slot at the top... maybe because it was a pre-release model???

Overall i liked the unit, not sure if i'd want it as my main PDA but as phone/PDA combo it is great!

    for pictures see:

Taken with my NR70V in poor light condition so quality of pics is pretty low..
Last pic is actually taken from the Treo600.

Actually that sim card location is standard.

one more thing I forgot to mention, the screen seems to be pretty solid and fool proof. it's got a plastic backing that actually gives when you push it too hard.. seems very durable...

    Thanks for the pics.

Did you put it up to your face like a phone? How did it feel compared to the 300?

Yep, used it as a phone and it works pretty good called my wife and she said the sound quality was pretty good.
Used the hands free feature too, it works OK, but is not great, other party complained about echo...

Heaps smaller! esp a lot less wide.
The 600 feels really natural in your hands while the 300 feels a bit awkward to me..

    Which telco?

Subtle hints would be OK as well.

Any idea of release date in Australia?

    Cheers

Do you have any plans for coming up to Brissie, maybe bringing the Treo 600 with you.

I'll shout you a carton of grog if you come up (just to confuse the non-Aussies on the board).

    Hello Australians

I note that the following store here in mebourne is accepting pre-orders
    http://www.ow.com.au/

It was listed on site as $799 (Australia Pesos) but they have removed the price. When I asked they said they hand not confirmed the price and they have "heard" that it may be > $1000....ouch.....

This is without a phone contract - said it would work on any Australian GSM network.

    Cheers

No real plans for heading north soon.. but what not is can always appear in the future... we have been thinking of going back to Fraser....
The tricky part would be to coax the owner of the phone into borrowing it to me...

BTW I like bananas but B is not the right answer in both questions..

    I'll take you up on the grog deal as long as it is not VBVBVB $or$ $XXXX$ ($so$ $now$ $the$ $seppo$'$s$ $must$ $be$ $really$ $confused$ )

Damn me and my cryptic questions. Now you have me really confused. I am hoping you mean Optus is the telco, given that I have been with them for so long (2 years uncontracted now) so they must be able to give me a 'deal'. Please can you confirm if it is Optus....please????

The screen of the treo600 is pretty good indeed. It is much better than the treo270. I have a pre-release sample here and it works fine for me. It seems pretty stable ( except when I'm testing some of the program's I'm writing myself )
I have found some problems with the blazer browser ( however it works way better in comparisson to the blazer on the treo270 ) but for normal use this is no big problem.
    Blazer problems

It also works a lot faster as a Treo270. Unfortunately I can't suply foto's because the only camera I've got here is the camera of the treo itself

Hahaha...actually now that you explain it, I think it has been explained to me in the past. Strange....Australians using Cockney rhyming slang to describe Americans. Which part of the world are you initially from Toolkit?
