I find the Treo "shortcut" sequence very frustrating. For example, if you want to quicky enter a datestamp you have to press the following:
    s
    "..." (the list key)
scroll down 3 times to the shortcut key
    ds

So you have to press 7 keys for this "shortcut"

Is there a hack that will allow quick access to the text shortcut. I tried TreoKeyCntlHack, but it gives a fatal error whenever I try to use shortcut on a Treo 300.

It's not free, but I use CorrectHack.
I think it's worth this price. You can try it out and it will autocomplete up to 10 (?) entries.

It's much faster than using the shortcut button sequence, but unless the application programmers code according to the proper specifications (and the listkey works), CorrectHack will not work.

e.g. I use this to autocomplete email addresses in Eudora, but since they did not code the email text area properly, you cannot use it in the email body.

Does correcthack provide a shortcut for date and time stamps?

It provides whatever you enter. Why don't you just download it and try it? I ended up purchasing the full version.
