Now that you mention it, I think the court reporters do have tape recorders to help them with editing transcripts. However, the court reporters transcripe the proceedings real time onto both paper and the computer system (which is why the Judge looks at his monitor before ruling on an objection... he's re-reading the question, objection, etc.)

I think the recordings are just for the court reporter, however. The official record is the final printed, edited, and certified copy from the court reporter.

I've seen fellow attorneys (from my future firm, too) in trial with a Pocket PC Phone. Overall, any rule that would keep PDAs out of the courtroom is a problem. I know my Judge has a PDA, so if it ever is an issue for me I won't hesitate to bring it up :-).

I think as a whole no phones, no palms or any device which has a recording or transmitting capability should be allowed in court or any other place which deems it to be in appropriate.

I know here in Australia they have banned camera devices palm's, mobile phones or otherwise from Gym's. You can imagine the problems with these units within a gym environment especially the change rooms.

Just take a look on the porn sites to get a feel for what is happening out their with camera devices.

I think their is a need to control the use of such devices within certain areas or establishments.

I think people need to relax. If someone wants to take a picture, they are going to, there's nothing you can do about it. If we want to prevent certain acts, punish those acts, especially when devices have such potential.

I agree. Punish people that PERFORM the act...not everyone else for having the capability.

Everyone is CAPABLE of bumping into someone while walking on a public sidewalk. Does that mean that we ban people from walking for fear that someone may bump someone into the street and get them hit by a car?

Where do you draw the line when the universe keeps expanding?
