Ok, I have had my Treo 300 for about a month (actually 3 but that is for another forum) and I still have not figured out:

    1. SMS - Is this just text messaging? But the base SMS is useless? I can send or receive? How? Buying the software lets me do what?

    2. Internet - Pop e-mail. Which way to go. Seems to be 3-4 popular, some free, some not. I just want to use 1 or 2 pop accounts not have to reinvent the world.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, SMS is just text messaging. The SMS application in your Treo allows you to receive only. If you wish to send out SMS messages to other phones you need to get Treo300SMS by pdaapps.com. A very worthwhile investment, IMHO.

The email is a very personal decision. I would suggest you do some reading on the pros and cons of the various email programs in this forum and give them a try. They all allow a free demo period. You will figure out soon enough which works best for you. I believe any and all of them will work with POP3 email.

Be patient and read ... there is a ton of information here.
