I was in my local Sprint store this morning, and since my local GSM provider is stuck in the dark ages (undoubtedly a luddite at heart) and isn't planning to upgrade to GPRS, I was asking about the Treo 300.

    They don't have any.

There's only ONE available in our store's region.

The salesperson told me that Sprint is phasing these out in favor of the Samsung SPH-i500. Told me to check it out on http://www.phonescoop.com/

Don't mean to be alarmist or anything, but can anybody else verify this?

I couldn't find it under the main headings. Perhaps buried in alt.cellular.sprintpcs newsgroup which can be surfed via phonescoop.

Actually, that seems correct, for the time being. Handspring expects to wind the Treo 300 inventory down with Sprint in the upcoming months. Sprint, most likely, will use the i500 as their next palm-based device. However, Handspring is maintaining its relationship with Sprint (and developing relationships with other carriers), as they expect to release an OS5 communicator in FY2003 Q3.
