PdaNet version 2.5 Beta 212 is out. Compared with 211 it has additional enhancement that you will want to try out:
    1. Allow HotSync to be running side-by-side. Not only that it shows both the Hotsync icon and PdaNet icon on the tray, it will also launch HotSync immediately as if the two application does not interfere with each other.

    2. Added customizable Ping feature for some Treo 300 users. I was hoping we don't even need to use this. For users that have disconnection problem and have to rely on a ping loop to keep alive, this build *might* have fixed the problem.

    3. Allow Balloon messages to be turned off. Some of you requested this and we listened :-)

Sweet! I don't install beta software on my work computer, but this feature is much appreciated!

I'm looking forward to pdanet for treo 600 if such will be possible. Besides a cheapo $12 case, I didn't buy any accessories for the treo 300 as I had an idea that it would just be a transition device. The 600 will be the device I splurge on picking up a cradle immediately if it doesn't come with one.

Love the features of the betas, but can't stand the bugs. I'll get disconnected and try to reconnect and it will sit at 0 bytes sent/recieved, and require a restart. I wish I could see how this was supposed to be a more stable driver.

I think I will back up to SP2 now, might not have all of the features, and it did have a few quirks (had to disconnect/reconnect the cable sometimes to get it to reconnect) but it was at least stable enough to not require restarts.

BTW, I'm on XP with all the latest critical patches.

I would definatly recommend this program for anyone who would need something like this, it's definatly well worth the money spent.

p.s. any chance for a backport of the features?

PdaNet Version 2.5 is released! It added support for Windows ME and Windows 98SE. It also allows HotSync to be running side-by-side and Balloon messages to be turned off.

I am also leaving the download link to the old version 2.0(SP2) on our web page in case it works better for some users.

    Check it out:

I was finally able to use PDANet with my Treo 270 with version 2.5. I think this should be one of the features announced.

Is the Treo 600 going to be supported? Would an upgrade to that version be free?
  12. #192
I am a registed user (paid for it) of PDANet and since I downloaded the 2.5 upgrade all I've had are problems. I've uninstalled the 2.5 and now I am back to using 2.0 and going fine.
Here are the problems I am having. (And by the way, I wrote to tech support 2 days ago and I have heard nothing in response.

    1. If your Sprint connection cuts out - like if you are on a train and go through a tunnel, you cannot reconnect. You get errors like - Can't find USB connection. Only solution is to reboot your laptop. I've tried everything else.

    2. PDANet froze my compter three times since I've started using it in 24 hours - only way to unfreeze is to force shut down.

So I write this message for three reasons:
    1. Hopefully PDANet will realize they have a problem with the upgrade which is not properly field tested.
    2. I can save you the trouble for upgrading until these problems are sorted out.
    3. Expidite the fixing of these problems.

Cheers! And Keep on being mobile!

There is a bug in the 2.5 version that causes some kind of "Cannot load phonebook" error on some XP/2K system and you have to reboot to make it work, we will try to reproduce the problem in house. If you are experiencing this you might want to go back to version 2.02, available on our web site.

Well, personally, Ive never gotten the generic host process... error, but I have gotten the cannot load phonebook error, and it's always been because of my own stupidity. I can hit the dial button on the phone and if I "double tap" then I hit disconnect by mistake sometimes. When I go to hit it to reconnect, Ill get the phone book error.

What Ive always done to correct that particular instance of the problem is to hit ok on the dialog box, then disconnect and reconnect the Treo from the USB cable. I will resume dialing with the first dialup box.

I like the option to log next connection, but for my 0 bytes sent/recieved problem, no log is made and I just have to reboot. (not fun when you have a password as crazy as mine to get on)

Sometimes, I will also get a unrecognized USB device popup. Just hit dial, dis/reconnect the Treo to the USB cable, and voila.

I have a nagging feeling that's caused by my crappy machine though, because I have some weird IRQ conflicts and one of them involves my USB card. With most of my problems though, just logging out and back in will fix them, like if the Internet icon stays in the tray after PdaNet disconnects, most of the time just logging out fixes that.

Anyways, I hope this helps some people.

BTW, is there any chance that PDANet would be able to use the same connection that the other applications generate, rather than dropping the original connection and creating a new one?
