Hi, does anyone have a copy of the original Palm LifeDrive installation CD that they can pass on to me? Or upload so that I can get the original software for my eBay bought LifeDrive? (it is not available on the Hp/Palm site.

    Many thanks!

Gazaud - thanks for the link, I will check it out, although I don't know how much postage would be to the UK where I am based.

Xandros - it's the Lifedrive Manager software I would really like - the program that I believe converts movie files to play smoothly on the Lifedrive and also allows for a more elegant transfer solution than the drive mode. If u do have the CD, please let me know!

    Many thanks,

I'm looking through it now and it looks like it doesn't have it, unless its part of the Palm Desktop installer.
Personally, I used PocketDivXEncoder during my time with the LD which works OK. PocketDivXEncoder

on a slight note, you made me put the CD drive back in my laptop for the first time in months.

Thanks Xandros, I'll have a look at the link. And yes, CD drives... I do still use mine, for films on DVD mainly, but then I do still alternate between my Treo 680 and Centro for my daily phone, and use my Foleo for work, so I guess I am a little behind the times, lol. I find I am more comfortable with my data in my pocket than in the cloud! :-)

    All the best,

Back when I was using my TX as a daily driver I used Fair Use Wizard to encode video at 350mb per hour at 480x 320 pixels ( most movies were 480 x 272.) Played back like butter using Core player. doesn't exhibit the block-u-lation (really bad pixelation) that the standard Palm encoding/player combination had. I should post a video of the TX playing video with Palm Pre smoothness. I also use the Palm Powerup SDHC driver which allows SD card up to 32gb to be used. Palm Powerups use to have software that would allow you to replace the Lifedrive 4gb hard drive with a much larger compact flash card.

Hi all, thank you for your comments and suggestions. I have managed to obtain a Lifedrive CD (from Chris Short - thanks Gazaud), and have installed the LifeDrive Manager. Unfortunately I have to run it in a virtual Windows XP environment in my Win 7 laptop, as it will not run on a more recent OS, even in compatibility mode.

Xandros, the Foleo... Yes, it is a marvellous device. Unfortunately I a little too busy to do an expose of it at the moment, but I am convinced that Palm missed a trick by not releasing it. I actually have two Foleos, and use the device most days. When I read through some of the historic articles and comments, it is clear that reviewers and the public at large got the wrong end of the stick with the mobile companion device. The best way I can put it is this - to my mind the Palm PDA replaced the pen and paper; it was instant on and very user friendly. The Foleo is the same. Yes, if you want to do Youtube and social networking on it, look elsewhere, but if you want a COMPANION device that works well with a Treo or Centro, it's magic. The instant on function really is just that - a Chromebook might take 8-10 seconds to boot from sleep, but the Foleo really is instant (0 seconds). The built-in software is good - not perfect but very nearly polished. I find the TealDiet and TealTracker apps very handy (3rd party purchases), and really enjoy using the machine. If you can get one on eBay, then I would recommend it. You will not be disappointed.

Namgod, thank you for the Fair Use suggestion. I have downloaded it and have been playing with it, looks good. I have also sourced PocketDivXEncoder, although I am having trouble getting it to run on Win 7. What other software do people use for converting (esp MP4) to AVI? Freeware is better!!

And now to my other question... Does anyone happen to have a copy of the Versamail 3.5.x update that Palm released some years ago? I cannot find it on the Net anywhere, and the links I have for it are dead. That would allow me to update the Versamail on my Lifedrive, and would be a welcome addition...

    Treo Lives!

    All the best,

    TLUK
