Shimon, until you find a fix the voicemail icon, what is the quickest way to switch from Takephone to the native address book?
  2.    #82
    Hi,

You can configure the "Phone" button to toggle between TAKEphONE and the built-in address-book:
Select "Options/Preferences" ==> "Using the Phone button" tab.
Then disable all tabs except "Find" and "Phone" app.

    Hope this helps

    Hey,
Since you're releasing a final version, does that mean you won't be addressing the issue about the voicemail notification?

To the contrary - now I will have the time to address it. I only need to get my hands on a Treo device...

    Hi,

Just took a look at a Treo, and saw no such indocator...
What device are you using ?
Where do you see this indicator ?

    Hi,

I'm using a Treo 300. In the built in phone app in both the speed dial and dialer parts, at the top of the screen in the white bar, right next to the signal indicator, an envelope appears when there is voicemail. Even with TakePhone installed, if I go to the built in phone app, the indicator still shows up. It's just not viewable from any of TakePhone's screens. I'll see if I can find a picture of it and post it here so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.

For some reason the webhost is redirecting the link when you click on it. But if you right click then save the gif you can see it.
    Take a look: http://letsgoflyers81.tripod.com/treodialer.gif

When the indicator shows up, you can actually tap on it with the stylus to dial voicemail. I'm not concerned about that feature, I always just use the speed dial button. I'm more concerned that with TakePhone installed, I have no need to view the built in phone app for any reason other than voicemail, so I'll have a tendancy to miss voicemail since the indicator doesn't show up. Hopefully you can add it. Thanks.

I believe the voicemail Icon that you are talking about is specifically for the Treo 300 on Sprint. The 270 and 180 doesn't have this. Have you recently installed any updates on your 300? That would be the cause of the problem.

No I haven't. I've avoided the update because of the turbo drain problem. My firmware is 1.02, the version it was right out of the box. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've done soft and hard resets, etc. Nothing fixes the problem. I'm curious if anyone else with a Treo 300 has the icon normally but not with TakePhone.

For some reason the webhost is redirecting the link when you click on it. But if you right click then save the gif, you can see a screen shot from the Treo 270's manual. It's not an envelope, but there IS a voicemail icon in the same position.

Does this mean this should exist on the Treo 270, too ?

If so - I can gain access to this device, and check to see if I can do it. (We do not have Treo300 here).

    Hi there,

The voicemail Icon id definitely not on my Treo 270, or my friends (different network) or was it on my original 180. I have the latest GPRS 1.1.1 upgrades.

I think it might be network dependent. Didn't Cingular have a special upgrade to get it working on a 270? Prob. could google that.

All Isee there is an empty directory

Does that mean that all of you with a Treo 270 or 180, after the original notification that there's new voicemail, you can't tell if you have voicemail except by calling and checking? I've never used a phone that didn't provide that. The manual I got the Treo 270 screen shot was post on on amazon.com and wasn't supposed to be carrier specific. So even without TakePhone installed no one with a 270 or 180 gets the icon?

I did some digging around in the Treo 270 forum and it looks like it is in fact a carrier issue. The 270 IS equipped with the icon, but the carrier might not support it. There were problems with T-Mobile and AT&T, not sure about Cingular though. So the icon is supported in the 270, just as with the 300. So Shimon, if you have a 270 to play with and can figure out the icon for that, I would think you could do it for the 300 as well, at least I hope.

Problem is - if I cant see the icon (you cant see it with the carrier here, too) - then how will I know what I am doing ?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I assumed you could just edit the code to display the icon, whether it's one built in or one you create. The way you can set TakePhone to show the time and date at the top, the Treo's phone app doesn't display it quite like that. So I figured if you could do that, a voicemail icon wouldn't be so hard. There's gotta be something in the software for the Treo that trigger's the icon to appear, so if you were to incorporate that into TakePhone, I thought it would work the same way. I didn't think you'd have to actually see the icon to be able to include it. Once you would try it, anyone with a Treo 300 would install it and know if it works and let you know. Sorry if I'm wrong about all this, I've never dealt with coding like this and I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Regarding the voicemail icon (which I get on my 270 with T-Mo). Don't those of you who get the icon also get an initial notification (full screen) that there is new voicemail? Unless my Treo has been turned off, I always get a full screen notification with the option Listen or Ok.

As to not seeing the icon from TakePhone....I never notice the icon until after having made a phone call in the first place...at which point you're still returned to the default phone where you would see the icon. So until you are no longer returned to the default phone, is it really that big an issue?

I do get the full screen notification. But it still bugs me because if I don't check my voicemail right away or if I get several of them, I might just flat out forget I have voicemail. With the icon always present, It's hard not to know you have voicemail. I'm not saying it's the end of the world not to have it there, but I do find it somewhat annoying.
