    Hi Simon,

I just downloaded and installed 5.04x3, and it appears that the send SMS button does not work anymore. However, hitting the send menu item from the main 'Find' screen does work.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

I need a little help: I want to add some SMS and Email support to TAKEphONE.

What I need to know - what s/w (manufacturer, name) comes built-in with the device for this ?

If anyone using other s/w - what is the name & manufacturer ?

    Current status:
    - Email: Works with Eudora-Mail, SnapperMail will have an API on the 1.6.
    - SMS: Works only with the Treo built-in SMS s/w.

You'll need to consider the differences between the 180/270 and the 300. Obviously the 180/270 tends to conform to the SMS specificaton for GSM carriers and the 300 being a CDMA device does not (thanks to Sprint). The 300 from the factory will only receive Sprint's verson of SMS (one-way Short Mail). Most users of the 300 also use Treo300SMS from PDAapps to facilitate the sending of SMS messages. I assume you will need to interface that product on the 300.

    Hi all,

A new build (5.04xa) is at my BETA page: http://www.shsh.com/beta

    Changes:
    ========

    - When showing search matches list, the field with the match is shown first.
    (to improve readability)

    - Can show time & date in screen title (need to activate in "Options/General prefs")

    - Treo - Keyboard "CAPS" (Option state) is automatically set when entering the
    various screens.

    - In the "Details" screen - tapping an email address tries to launch the email
application (still under construction, works with Eudora Mail)

    - Text in begining of number: You can add text in the phone numbers field at the
    begining, provided you and it with a ":" and a space (e.g. "Room1: 23232322")

    - Added "Go to built-in address-book app." to the Tab's loop order settigns.

    - Fixed call-history lookup.
    - Fixed crash with Samsung call-history.
    - Fixed 6035 Speed-Dial.
    - Fixed 7135 Speed-Dial.

As always - any input will be appreciated !

    Hi Shimon,

I am running the 5.04xa version now, and have had no problems. The SMS is now working perfectly, and the time at the top is a very good touch.

The email is good, but I am really waiting for the SnapperMail connection.

Also I see that the large company names are not a problem when listing the various phone numbers. The comma between the first name and surname has also been removed, which is good.

And now for one obscure bug. When setting your order of the 'phone button' presses, the one at the bottom cannot be moved up. However if you disable a tab, that goes to the bottom.

    Keep up the great job.

    Hi,

It's not a bug - the "Address-Book" options MUST always stay last in the tab order, because to open it I need to hand it over the control, thus will not be able to go to another tab.

The only way I can do this is by putting it last, then after I move through - say - "Find", "Speed", "History", I launch the address-book app. Then - provided the "Phone" button is assigned to TAKEphONE - the OS restarts TAKEphONE on the next "Phone" press.

    Treo 180G, PalmOS V3.5.2H5.6 (GPRS)
    TakePhone 5.04xa

    Very nice-to-have (almost must have):
    1. Return to TakePhone after dialing (now, it returns built-in PhoneBook)
    2. Treo style find (first_letter of first name + second name - it was introduced in Treo and most of Treo users are now very used ot it - it can be check-box option under Preferences
    3. Direct SMS from SpeedDial page. You could add SMS button somewhere on top of the screen so that you first tap SMS button and then speed dial entry.

    Nice to have :
    1. I use speed dial page for my first TakePhone page. This page does not show network information. Obviously, you ment "find" page for first page ? Date and time information are too small and not easily visible on relatively small Treo screen.
    2. TakePhone always turns to "Find" page before dialing - it brings more delay in dialing and it is annoying.

    Bugs:
    1. While trying to add entries in Speed dial using TakePhone, it is only possible to enter "Work" phone - or just one phone if entry has ony one phone. Workaround is using built-in Phone book
    2. while trying to edit phonebook entries using ThakePhone details view (tap to edit / tap to dial), it is not possible to view long text while entering the text. ie. many people have long titles (like Director of research and development). View is limited to 17 characters. Text should scroll or skip to second row. Workaround is using built-in Phone book
    3. it is not possible to dial specific entries which have mulitiple phone entries in one category separated by comma. Takephone does not recognize this format

Other improvments (there are alreedy some utilities but I am not very happy with them)
    1. group SMS
    2. sending contacts via SMS
    3. dialing statistics and dialing counters
    4. ringing profiles

It is definetely great peace of software and I always thought that Treo should have better ergonomic and funcionalites in built in application. I am definietely willing to register&buy it as soon as new version gets final and hopefully all bugs and must have points from my list are solved.

Keep up with good work !

Sorry - but the way I am interfacing the Treo dialer right now does not allow me to gain control after a call... (this is true for all 3rd party s/w, I believe)

    2. Treo style find (first_letter of first name + second name - it was introduced in Treo and most of Treo users are now very used ot it - it can be check-box option under Preferences

I believe you can use the "And" button to do the same

    3. Direct SMS from SpeedDial page. You could add SMS button somewhere on top of the screen so that you first tap SMS button and then speed dial entry.

    I will certainly consider this.

    I will add this.

Date and time information are too small and not easily visible on relatively small Treo screen.

I will consider doing it the way Treo does (in the buttons)

    2. TakePhone always turns to "Find" page before dialing - it brings more delay in dialing and it is annoying.

I am afraid it is a result of the inner contruction of the s/w, I will try and change this, but not for this release.

    Bugs:
    1. While trying to add entries in Speed dial using TakePhone, it is only possible to enter "Work" phone - or just one phone if entry has ony one phone. Workaround is using built-in Phone book

I guess you mean using the "Lookup". You are right. I will fix this.

Well - I do want to stop "feature creep"...
Maybe in the next version ?

Yes, built-in Phonebook asks (additional pop-up window) which number you want to dial

    Work: 016345451, 016124554

Actually, it desn't ask you which number to dial - in master contact view it displays only the first number. In details view, it displays both numbers and it dials the number you click on.

I have very few such entries in my phonebook and I personally don't consider this a big problem.

I've installed the beta on my Treo 270 and it works like a charm. The only problem I have is that when my phone is switched off, Takephone will ask me to enable the connection but I never get to see the page to enter my PIN for my SIM-card. The only way to get to this screen is to go back to the original Phonebook application of the Treo.

Am I missing a setting somewhere or is this a known limitation?

    Hi,

I guess it is a known limitation from now on...

The question about enabling the connection is actually not displayed by TAKEphONE, but rather by the built-in "Phone" application, and I have no control over it. Nor do I know why it does not display the PIN page...

Yes, it works, but not exactly the same funcionality. And it is much slower. If it's not big deal, it woluld be nice to have "Treo style" find.

Any plan/date for next beta ?

I think I may have forgotten to mention - if you turn "Turbo" mode on, then the search will be much faster.

When you search "John Smith" on Treo, you could enter jsm...
With every letter you enter, it narrows result set. To best of my experience (and my thinking) it is by far the fastest way to find y person in adress book. To be more precise, it is most economic way - you find the person with minimum number of letters.

If I manage to download address book application from my Treo, I will send PRC to you. it should be compatible with standard palmOS address book.

Any idea how to download PRC file from TREO ROM ?
