And there is one page of the details screen that just shos Cust 1-Cust4.

If all of these are blank as they often are for me then this whole page of information is useless -

I know its just an extra keypress to get past this but this is a productivity tool and every extra little efficiency built in - when performed dozens of times a day adds up....

And vise versa - every perceived inefficiency just adds to a little bit of frustration.

    OK, here goes:

    1. When first entering the DETAILS screen, you are in "Dial" mode - the default phone number is highlighted, and you only need to press MIDDLE 5-way to dial.
If you move UP/DOWN it will highlight the next existing phone field in that direction - again - ready to dial with a MIDDLE press.
(Minimum pressing - only need to press UP/DOWN to move through NON-EMPTY fields).

    2. If you set "Treat custom fields as phones" ON, then you can enter phone numbers there, too, and the cursor will move to them, ready to dial.

    3. Moving further down - the fields are not numbers, so no need to dial, so we can move page-by-page to show them faster.

    4. Now - if you want to EDIT any field (using the 5-way) - you start the "5-way mode" by pressing RIGHT, then you can navigate to all fields for EDITING.
5-way mode ends either by selecting a cell to edit, or a timeout.

    5. True - "compressing" fields is a good idea, but that WOULD require quite a change in code, AND a (yet) another screen for editing/adding fields (like with the built-in app).
BTW - I am not sure if we make a "competition" between TP & the built-in app on how many presses to view the whole record - I will lose...

    6. Maybe it's a good idea to change the order a bit - put the "custom" fields at the end...

I have my number blocked from caller ID, so when I call numbers that prevent blocking, I'm prompted to dial "*82" before dialing the phone number. The call will not otherwise go through.

Is there some way that I can add this prefix once the number comes up in Search mode?

I think that's an excellent idea and a good "remedy," IF it is a user option, because many of us have data in those fields and sorting them to the end seems NOT be an improvement.

Curious how you accomplish this in the native phone app.

I just installed the latest beta version and now when I use the keyboard on the Treo 600, it causes it to do a soft reset.

My only workaround has been to change the number in Contacts to *82+1+area code+number. I wish there were any easier way. It's either that, or key it in manually when I need to make a call.

Is TAKEphONE mapped to your 1st hardware button?

OK, I've been working with TAKEphONE some more, and have a couple of comments.

First, let me repeat that this is a very good piece of software in many ways. Cursor movement is somewhat ideosyncratic, but I can get used to it for the most part.

The one thing I really dislike, and don't think I'll ever care for, even if I "get used to it," is the cursor jumping back to some default location if I don't take action soon enough. Sorry, but I think that *I* should decide where the cursor belongs, not the developer.

Second, when selecting the option to Open or Edit an entry, the program jumps to the built in Contacts app. I understand this, as writing another edit app would be complicated and unnecessary. But when I'm done editing, and click "Done," I'm left in the contacts app. This is a bit disconcerting, especially since I don't have TAKEphONE mapped to the phone button.

It IS possible to keep track of the last app used, as several existing programs have the capability to switch back to a prior app. I don't know if this can be done automatically, but if it is possible, bringing control back to TAKEphONE would be a real nice feature.

I'm out of my mind. But feel free to leave a message.

Can you supply more details -
What version are you using ?
What exactly do you do that causes the reset (on what screen, what key are you pressing) ?

    Sorry for the reset...

Unless those numbers have a seperate prefix, I can't think of something...

I'll give it some more thought, though...

There is an option "Treat custom fields as phones" - this is the one I was planning on using (if ON - custom fields will be at the current place, if OFF - they will be swapped with the ADRRESS group)

If you or anyone can suggest another way to end this "5-way mode" - I'll be happy to implement it.

    1. You can edit all fields WITHIN TAKEphONE ("tap to edit" or "5-way mode" to the field).

    2. You are referring to apps who know the prior app and return to it. In our case this app is the built in CONTACTS app - I can not fix things there...

    Hi,

    Version 5.05m (99s) is at www.shsh.com/beta

    - "5-way mode": configure timeout (2, 4, 6, 10 seconds).
    - "Details" screen: "custom" fields are displayed after "address"
fields (unless "treat custom as phones" option is ON).
    - Calling-Cards: data moved to a seperate database, in stead of
the address-book database, to free up the category.

I am using version 99r. I have it mapped to my first hardware button. The program runs fine but when I type using the keyboard to look up a contact it causes a soft reset. This did not happen in the prior beta version. If I use the screen to type it works fine.

    Do you mean 99p ?

Did you try this with 99s ?

    Gotta love that timout-2,4,6,10 thing!

    Thanks for that!

Using 99s, but I'm not sure that's too significant.

    1. Minor:

Once in the edit dialog one can reach the note field simply by scrolling to the bottom. Very nice, except there is no way to get the curser into the text field without a screen tap. And in 5-way mode, one cannot reach the note field at all. Is that by design? Seems it should be reachable either way and that the 5-Way rocker should be usable for text in the note field.

    2. Major:

If one scrolls to the note field, then taps the screen to put the curser into the text field, then any 5-Way rocker presses causes absolute mayhem with the buttons and text field, way too complicated to explain right now. You just have to do it to see what happens. Not a pretty sight.

    1. when in 5-way mode pressing UP should bring you to the "tap to edit" label. Pressing SELECT should start edit.

    2. Do you mean you tap the notes field while IN "5-way mode" ?
