Forgive me if this has already been addressed in this marathon thread--my speed dial buttons have lost their functionality (T600). I have to use the 5-way in order to select. Is this a known issue?

    Hi,

This is in response to BOTH the previous emails:
I know this may be missleading, but -

I have implemented my OWN way of handling 5-way navigation. Remember this s/w is meant for ALL devices with a 5-way navigator, including those that does NOT implement it the way the Treo 600 does.

So - my implementation goes like this:

    * In forms where there are 2-3 button only, I preffer using the left/select/right pressed as shortcuts to allow for even faster operation.
This will be noted by a "<" on a button shortcutted by the LEFT press, BOLD on one shortcutted by the middle SELECT button, and a ">" for RIGHT press.

    * In other forms the 5-way is implemented as a "5-way mode", which is activated by a RIGHT or LEFT press.
Once activated, it highlightes the buttons, and allows you to navigate through them using LEFT/RIGHT, and - if there are more than one row - UP/DOWN.
Pressing the middle SELECT button emulates a tap on the highlighted button.
The mode persists as long as the buttons/controls are highlighted, and is terminated either as a result of pressing the middle SELECT button on a button which changes the screen (like a TAB moving to another screen), or by a no-activity timeout (i.e. if you do not press anything for while, the "5-way mode" is terminated, and the highlight goes away).

I know this is not intuitive to Treo 600 users, who are used to the way the OS handles that, but it is - in my opinion and expirience - a better way to handle multi-button screens.

Now - bearing that in mind - let's repond to your points:

Find Form: Would make it complete to make the drop down category menu 5Way accessible.

It SHOULD be accessible - if you press RIGHT to start the "5-way mode", then navigate RIGHT to the "ABC" button, then UP to the popup list.

Details Form(s): Still no 5Way at all. Not in the Text Fields.

Text fields are NOT editable by default (like in the built-in address-book - initial view is for view, not edit.

Not in the button fileds at the bottom of the page (back, open, beam icon, schedule icon). Only the SMS icon button can be reached with the 5Way, and once you've landed on it the 5Way is frozen there. One is then required to tap the screen to get out of it.

Pressing RIGHT should highlight the SMS button, then pressing RIGHT/LEFT should navigate through the bottom row of buttons. Does it not ?!?!?
If you do not press anything for 1-2 seconds, the highlight will be off ("5-way mode" terminated).

I will continue this in the next response...

When searching (enter one letter and then using down key on the 5 way your cursor moves to the 5 tab selectors.

Can you supply more details - what exactly are you pressing ?

How does one move to the list of names?

Not in "5-way mode", wait until it ends.

Once zoomed into a single persons entry - press the down key on the 5 way. your cursor highlights the SMS mesgage icon (3rd icon in the bottom row.)
There is no way to get back up into the list of valid phone numbers or move to the other possible icons in the bottom row

This is strange - seems like there is a mixup between the LEFT/RIGHT and UP/DOWN buttons.

Can you again details the presses you make ?

Sorry, I meant the hotkey buttons. When I bring up the the "Phone" app, the hotkeys work, but they don't from the Speed-Dial view.

Just to make sure I am not off track:

Please install and run this utility. It is meant to show the codes generated by pressing the 5-way nav and other buttons.

Run it, tap the "Log ON" button, then press all the 5-way nav buttons, and let me know what you see on screen.

    Thanks !

Yes, I'm referring to the screens I scroll through within TakePHone. I'm currently using Beta 98y3. The Speed-Dial view isn't working with hotkeys.

Can you give me an example of a HotKey you're using ?
And - you mean it IS working on other TAKEphONE screens ?

Sure-- the bottom-right speed dial hotkey is G, mapped to the TreoCentral url. I can navigate to it and center-press, but the G-key is nonfunctional.

But when I scroll to the native Treo Speed-dial page, the hotkey G sends me to Blazer: http://discussion.treocentral.com
  11. #211
But when I scroll to the native Treo Speed-dial page,
This is the Functionality of THAT app. TakePhone is a different app. I'll bet the 'G' hotkey doesn't work in any other app either...

You may be right- that's why I'm asking Shimon. I sorely miss the hot keys.

    This SHOULD work...

    Please do this for me:
Download and install the attached app.
When you run it - tap the "Log ON" button, then press 'G',
let me know what it displays on screen, then press & HOLD 'G', and let me know...

BTW - did it work in previous versions of TAKEphONE ?

    Thanks !

    Hi all,

Please send me the results of the KeyTest util posted above.

    ALSO - there is a new build (5.05m 99c) posted at www.shsh.com/beta

Please install it, and let me know if it fixes your issues
(for one thing - it handles the History buttons "better")

I've tried installing keytest.prc, and I get an 'invalid handheld file' error when I hotsynch.

No, the hotkeys haven't worked for me in previous versions, either.

Do you see the letters you assigned on the TAKEphONE speed-dial screen buttons ?

    And - try this attachment.

    Hi Simon,

Looks like you've got a lot of threads running here simultaneously. By highlight, I meant the little blue border that the Treo 600 uses to indicate where you are in terms of the 5Way Nav. It's not showing up on the lookup screens.

No it does not - in stead the button is inversed.
Reason - I am not using the Handspring mechanism here, but my own - because I want this to work a bit differently, and I want it to work on non-treo devices, too.

But I don't see anything reversed either. I can't tell which number is being selected. To give you an example --

    1. I go to the edit speed dial entry in TakePhone
    2. I nav to the lookup button and select it using the 5Way
    3. I see the lookup screen with a bunch of entries. There's only one phone number entry per person. I would think that there should be multiple depending on what's in the address book (i.e. one for work, one for home, etc.)
    4. If type an "a" on the "Look Up:" field and the list is filtered. This works well.
    5. Now I want to pick one of the numbers using the 5-Way Nav, I press down and try and highlight one of the numbers and I see nothing. I know behind the scenes some sort of selection bar is moving because if I press down once and then the center selection button on the 5Way I get one number. If I press down twice and then the center selection button I get a different number added as an entry. So the 5Way seems to working. I just can't tell which number is being selected.

    When I press 'G' I get

    Before: 67,67,800

When I press and hold 'G' I get

    Before:67,67,800
    Before: 8,0,0
    Before: 36,0,0

Yes, I can see the letters assigned to the hotkeys.
