I'm not a rep or anything, I'm just jealous of the people that get this deal for $250, and I'm completely baffled that we have messages on here about any other deals.

Can someone help me understand why on earth (existing customers excluded) people are buying at handspring, spring direct, best buy, whatever co, etc?

    Thank
    Matt

The Amazon deal is for new activations only... probably the people going for the other deals are current Sprint subscribers.

When I buy a portable device, I like to purchase an extended warranty if available. I got my Treo for $375, but paid another $60 for a warranty. In my opinion, warranties are just invaluable. I get them for my cell, other palms, etc, etc.

I rather pay more at a local merchant, get a warranty, and have the convenience of walking into the store the same day I break it (or it malfunctions) and walking out with a new unit.

Plus, if it does break or malfunction, you can always upgrade to the latest model. Just pay the upgrade (if any) difference.

    Does Amazon offer that?

I order a treo 300 from amazon and had over night delivery for an extra $18... Two days later still wasnt shipped and i called sprint to cancel my current contract cause i was getting a new one through amazon and the sprint rep told me to cancel my amazon order and she would give my current account a $220 credit and sell me the phone for $499 but keep my same number. So with the 220 credit and not having to pay for new activation which it $34 i only payed $245 through sprint and kept my same number.... She told me they were aware of amazons deal and this is what she could do for me.

    Something to think about

That is pretty sweet. I ordered from Amazon 13 days ago and mine has still not shipped. Customer support said it should be soon and gave me free shipping. I saved $6.98. Great.

It still has not shipped. I sent off another e-mail saying I had to have it by the 18th since that is when the rebate expires. <sigh>

Doesn't Amazon offer free shipping on anything over $25?

Yes but the gotcha is that there will be additional 3-5 day wait until the order ships.

Here is the latest in my effort to get my Treo 300 sent to me after waiting 14 days so far...

I apologize for the delay in responding.

I have been researching your order in hopes of finding a quick
resolution. I have been informed that a small number of orders,
including yours, have experienced an error resulting in delayed
shipping. I was also reassured that this order will definitely ship,
    but unfortunately not today.

Our technical team is working very hard to resolve this issue as
    quickly as possible.

Supposedly the rebate ends of the 18th. Unless they overnight it to me they are not going to make it. I have a feeling I am going to get shafted.

If you read the 'fine print', they mention that so long as you placed the order before then you are cool like beans.

That is somewhat reassuring. However technically I have not purchased anything until they charge my credit card which they have not done yet. I am sure Amazon isn't going to stick it to me though.

****For those of you that will not make the Amazon Nov 18th deadline.*****

I went ahead and bought the treo at a sprint store last week Then today I complained to the sprint rep about the amazon deal and they gave me the $200 rebate...(singing) it my birthday it's my birthday. Of course the $200 rebate was in credit applied towards my account. It was going to get spent one way or the other.

    Amazon says:

Rest assured, if you have placed an order for a qualifying phone with
a service plan on or before the expiration date, your order will be
eligible for the promotion, even though the activation might not
occur until after that date. However, if you experience problems with
receiving the rebate after you send it to the address listed on the
form, please let us know so we can assist you further.

This is from my latest e-mail from them. They still can not provide me with a ship date. The site says that it will be delivered between the 14th-27th. WOW. I live in Chicago not Siberia.

How is they can not tell me when it will be shipped is beyond me. And people wonder why Amazon is not making money....

My ship date was Nov 15 - Nov 22. I received mine Mon Nov 11. It stayed in "Ready to Ship no changes can be made to this order" for about two days, then poof, the shipping info appeared. I overnighted it so I could track it (and of course, get it fast).

Argh! Well I often receive shipments from Amazon before I even get an e-mail saying it has been shipped. As far as I know it is already on the way. Or it isn't. I still have my cell phone, it is the PDA I am living without since my Visor bit the dust.

The worse part is UPS or whoever will deliver when I am not at home. I hate it when that happens.

Well I got another update from the nice folks of Amazon. My order still has not shipped. They know they're was a screw up but they can't seem to fix it. Why can't they just put the phone in a box and send it to me? This is starting to turn into a seinfeldian episode. "They can take the order, they just can't ship the order. And really the shipping part is the most important part of the transaction." Here is their latest e-mail....

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

We are very sorry for the delay in completing your order.

In looking into the situation, I see that the shipment of your order
has been delayed by a system error. Our technical specialists are
working hard to correct the problem so that we can ship your order
    as soon as possible.

As soon as your order has shipped, we will send you e-mail confirming the date, contents, and method of shipment.

In an effort to compensate you for this delay, I would like to offer
you a $20.00 promotional certificate for use toward your next order from Amazon.com. You will find the claim code and instructions
    beneath my signature.

I hope you'll understand that we do our best to ensure that all of
our customer orders leave our fulfillment centers as close as
possible to the availability and shipping estimates listed on our
    web site.

In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we'd like to offer our customers is convenience, and I realize that we have not
met that standard in this case. I hope that you will give us another opportunity to prove the quality of our service to you in the future.

Ok that's cool. $20 seems a little on the low side to me. But I will take it. If they don't ship it tomorrow I will shoot them off another e-mail.

Someday I will have my treo 300 and not be able to use SMS just like y'all.
    Grace & Peace,

    utey
