But it's still the only decent option I can find for calendar sharing between two people via hotsync. why does it require access to the WeSync Server? Why does it never seem to work the first time? Why does WeSync want to stick yet another lame icon in my system tray (and RAM)? Why isn't there another free, simple solution out there.

WeSync, once you get the bugs out, looks to be scalable and perfect for business groups, especially disparate ones. For just two people, it's overkill--and too buggy to be worth it.

All I want is my wife's calendar automatically put on my treo (DualDate seems to require me to Beam it manually--too forgetful). Is that so hard?

I'm not sure if this is an option for you but PocketMirror Pro allows syncing of multiple calendars. It's explained in this FAQ. Unforunately, it appears to need Chapura's own Calendar app.
