I notice a lot of concerns expressed here, which sooner or later will be worked out I'm sure, but it's not clear to me whether the problems and complaints are all about web and internet problems, or also include plain old cell phone service?

If the bugs aren't yet completely out, and there are problems with making and receiving cellular phone (voice) calls, then I will wait to make my purchase, because I surely would not want to switch my existing Sprint PCS service over to a Treo 300 and then find out I have trouble with cellular phone calls! I can't do without that in my work!

But if the bugs and troubles are only about web and internet, I would buy and switch over now, because I frankly don't care that much about connecting to the web and internet, I just want to replace my present phone and my Palm IIIc with this one single, tiny slick Treo 300!

So any clarification from those of you experiencing problems would be very much appreciated. Do the problems involve cellular (voice) phone service or not? Thanks!

When I was having major problems last weekend through Tuesday night....a tier 2 supervisor told me that 3G was for data only right now....voice is same digital 2G that we've had for years. I don't know if that is true, but that's what they told me.

I've had fatal errors show up on my phone the past two nights sometime during my sleep. The phone was fully charged at bedtime....when I checked it the next morning, there was a fatal error message showing with the lights blarring, and the battery drained. I had to do a soft reset both times. When you do that, the phone comes up in non wireless mode.....you have to attempt to make a call to connect and change the mode.

I've pretty much decided to return my Treo 300....I think much better phones are going to come out soon.....by that time maybe Sprint will have their act (better) together.

gdgconsulting, I'm curious: what programs have you installed (if any) on the Treo since you got it? So far, I've had no fatal errors with my Treo, and its going on its third straight day of use here.

Perhaps it could've just been a bad phone in the batch?

My Treos' been good to me in terms of voice calls, haven't missed any yet. I've noticed mine does have a very pessimistic signal strength indicator: it'll show one bar where other phones show three. At the same time though, it still seems to hold a call better than some of the other phones I've had in fringe areas despite showing less signal strength.

Also FWIW: I was told the very opposite about 3G voice. The rumour was that the 3G voice was active long before 3G data was launched, so that they could start seeing a benefit from the 3G "voice only" phones Sprint had been (and still is) selling.

I have Biz Conn (Sprint's), Casino, Diet & Exercise Assistant/Food DB, and Xiino. All the rest are default.

The fatal error didn't happen last night. I'm wondering if Sprint didn't try to send out programming over the weekend for the 2 nights that mine had errors. I had major provisioning/system update problems that took 3 days to correct after I bought mine the first weekend out. I still don't have my username on any screen like most do....mine still shows the time, which is better fo me, but I wonder what programming I missed?

I'm taking mine back this week....have you heard about the problem of going out of service area, then returning? The phone does not enter wireless mode again by itself without a soft reset....I experienced this myself once already. The two nights that I got fatal errors.....my phone went out of wireless mode then too for many hours until I got up and reset it. A non-reliable phone is not what I paid $500+ for. Only problem is that I don't know what to get for a replacement. I still have my old phone I guess....I have a feeling that 3G data costs are going to scare the crap out of most users once they have to start paying it. I bet I've used over 20mb in one week, and I'm on an 8mb plan....

What do you mean by "wireless mode"? Forgive my ignorance, but what other mode is there on a cell phone but wireless mode?

Again, is your complaint of trouble directed to normal (voice) cell service, or to internet/web connections?

    Thanks,

If you turn off your phone, or do a soft or hard reset....the phone by default can not make or accept calls....you have to turn on the wireless mode to make it a cell phone....otherwise it's just a PDA...one reason they did this was for using on airplanes during flight....(no cell phones allowed to be on).
