So many stories floating around over here. Thought this poll would be useful

Sprint activated my Treo 300 around 6am today. Phone works great, but no 3G data. I called at 9am, and apparently the configuration for the data part didn't go through for some reason. They had to open a ticket to the 3G data team, and they are saying 24 hours before it will work. It's 8:30pm now and still no data.

I'm getting an 'Unknown Error' during the part where it's suppose to download the updates from Sprint. (during the first connect to Data)

Hopefully this will work tomorrow morning ... anyone out there with a similar symptom? Is there anyone out there that activated on Sunday that has it working??

    Racer.

My story is just the same (including the open trouble ticket), except I activated it at 9am, and my trouble ticket was opened at 3pm.

One rep told me my phone would need to be reprogrammed since I got it activated before 12 noon. But tech support didn't mention that I needed it.

I am having the same problem except the 3G expert at Sprint told me to sync it to my laptop which I did and it still doesn't work.

My story is a little different, although with the same ending. I activated my phone a few hours ago. Things seemed to go smoothly, except for one small hitch. They neglected to mention to me that I needed to turn off my old phone (I was transferring to my Treo and keeping the old phone number) IMMEDIATELY, while they were talking to me. What happened was that as I was speaking with the service rep, my old phone received a long garbled SMS message. I couldn't read the message (lot of strange characters) on my old phone. Needless to say, the Treo didn't receive the critical SMS message.

Hapless rep didn't know what to do, just sort of mumbled that he hoped it didn't matter. Gave me my 3G username, but said that the only way to receive the 3G password was through the SMS (that I now couldn't get).

Two hours later I had phone activation, but needless to say no data connection (clicking on blazer causes it to attempt to connect and download settings but then to error out).

Called activation again, they tried to do something but couldn't, they transferred me to a "tech support trouble specialist for 3G". He didn't really understand what I was talking about, but finally checked and told me that "I'll probably get another SMS message in 72 hours." He said I shouldn't touch the phone in any way, otherwise it will "mess things up." When I pressed him as to why he thought this would occur, he didn't really have an answer. In the end, he opened a "trouble ticket" and said that it would take them 72 hours to get back to me.

Guessing that what I might have to call them again, but that I won't have any data connection in the forseeable future!!!

    Really aggrevating.

same story here....activated it @ 12:05 a.m. today. Phone works fine, no data at all. Get Unknown error message. I've been passed around so much I'm feeling like a cheap french *****. I think the last csr felt the same way. He was a supervisor who saw that I'd spoken to about 6 different people today and was nice enough to credit me my $85 mo. service charge, without asking.

Open ticket to be fixed, but no data

The rep at *2 asked me if I wanted to transfer my current plan over the the Treo 300. I told her that I was told by in-store reps that PCS Vision was a requirement for the Treo.

At any rate, I got on the PCS Vision plan, which the rep said would begin on the next billing cycle -- in my case September 7 -- and could use my existing Sprint Total Digital Connections plan until then.

The phone service was activated after two hours, but when I try to access the internet, I get a "Registration Failure" error. I'll try resolving the problem with another rep when the lines aren't as busy.

I'm still not sure I am on 3g, as the speeds reflect 2g speed. I can access data, have my 3g username and password, and can login etc. Getting no errors whatsoever, but the most speed i get is about 1 k BYTE per second very poor speed. I suspect that Sprint is having a lot of trouble rolling out 3g and we are all still using 2g until they truly switch us over.

At least... that is what I HOPE to be the case. Otherwise 3g is pretty lame.

My customer no-service drone said the same thing while stepping thru the process yesterday AM and it slipped right by me. I noticed something was wrong when I went to the website and noticed that although it said I was now using a Treo, it still had my old plan, but now showed that I had finally signed a 1-yr contract.

What they finally ended up doing w/ me this AM (and I still don't know if data will work), is they completely disabled my previous plan and started from scratch. They then prorated the new plan to coincide w/ my existing billing cycle.

I KNOW that this still isn't going to be right, but I figure I still have about 15min before I can touch my phone again.

I called yesterday to switch my plan from previous PCS phone. It was extremely painful and the sprint person seemed very confused.

    * The first person at *2 launched right into the process for a regular PCS phone - telling me I'd have to pay a setup fee and commit to a new contract. When I explained that I had a new Vision phone he transfered me to Customer Care - where things got worse.
    * He tried to convince me to wait until Aug 17th to avoid losing minutes.
    * Couldn't determine how to add 8MB for $10 as described in the brosure. He told me to go to the web site in a couple days and add it.
    * It took about 30 minutes, mostly me waiting for him to find the right information.
    * Am I gonna get the first 3 months free? I have no idea.
    * How/when will I get my Vision password & username? I have no idea.
    * Towards the end of the sign-up I ask if my wifes "Add-a-phone" phone would still work. He was suprised and unsure if Vision&non-Vision phones could share minutes.

The regular phone features work, but no 3G/Vision.
My 3G services are not on and I have no idea what to expect next.

Every related feature on the sprint PCS website sais "Temporarily Unavailable".

I also did not turn off my old phone. I think I left it turned-on back at my house.

I guess they must be in some sort of crisis with their roll-out.

However, I am still hopeful that they will get it together and then everything will be beautiful. But right now I'm embarrased for sprint and myself.

I too am still waiting and I can't quite understand the delay other than "growing pains". I got activated and switched my plan yesterday at 11 am. The phone works and I can receive SMS but no data. If I try to connect to Sprint Provisioning through the Network Preferences, I get an unknown error. Four calls to tech support and all I have been told is that it may take up to 72 hours to provision my data. I went through all of the details with a tech support guy this morning and he could see that several attempts have been made unsuccessfully to provision my phone. I did try to activate online prior to yesterday and got thwarted by the website so I reactivated my old phone. I wonder if that somehow has screwed everything up. In my enthusiasm to get surfing did I unwittingly, in part, create problems? I am waiting and leaving the phone on but not using it. That was the advice I was given.

I can't actually explain the fix for this in this reply, but this is the situation: I am working on 3G with Treos for Sprint PCS, and in fact I activated and programmed 40 of them just last week. The problem all of you are having with 3G Web not provisioning was a common problem due to the fact that the system still has minor glitches. However, the techs should NOT be putting tickets through on this.

All that needs to be done is a manual programming of the Web, which has about 26 steps to it, but it does work. Believe me, I did it on about half of the Treos I programmed last week.

However, I have checked some internal information, and it is possible that the customer care & technician representatives may not have been provided with this information. So, I'm trying to get that handled. Hopefully they will be able to help soon. So, in the next day or two, if the Web isn't working for you, call and speak with a technician (not a customer care specialist!) and explain that you need to have the web MANUALLY PROGRAMMED! They may email you the instructions, but probably they will just step you through the process, which is lengthy and slightly complicated.

Hope this helps, and we at Sprint apologize for any inconvenience, believe me!

My Treo 300 was activated Sunday...no data yet. Called SprintPCS this morning and they could not provision my phone (didn't work), so they put in a ticket....says within 4 hours it will be fixed...I don't believe it. Why would they roll this out if it doesn't work? I've read data rates of 1-2k....what a joke. It's going back to the store within 14 days if this continues.

I just called again, and asked the Tier 2 tech support contact to walk me through the 'manual web setup' process in the messages above .. I did that, and I still get the same 'Unknown Error' message. The tech said that the phone still hasn't downloaded it's IOTA (internet over the air) settings from Sprint yet, and it won't work until that happens. He updated the ticket and is having them try to push the config down to the phone again ...

Oh well, guess I'm still waiting

I waited 4 hours after the ticket this morning and still no data/web on my Treo...on hold with Sprint now waiting for a person to talk to. I plan to advise them to go thru the manual config described above if they will, though one poster said that still didn't work. I will post again after talking to Sprint (waiting................................................)

Can you post the steps so we can try them?? Tech support I talked to seemed clueless about a manual process to provision the phone.

Where exactly on the phone should your userid appear on the phone? Above the dial pad? Somewhere else?

I ran through the setup process (which seemed a little short)....they had me enter ##357248 from the dialpad....and check the HEX number matches my phone on the back and the phone#....it matched....clicked save and got unable to save, nothing changed type error....they did not know what to do....I've been on the phone for 1 hour, 15 minutes now....they really don't know what to do.

I talked and waited on the phone for 1 hour, 25 min.....no progress...has anyone had luck with it starting to work by just waiting?
