    Hi,

    I am about to finish integrating Treo into my TAKEphONE application.

    TAKEphONE is an address-book enhancement, allowing:
    - VERY FAST & NO-STYLUS ("One-Handed") contact lookup, using various search methods.
    - Dialing found records using the Treo (or IR cellulars, VisorPhone and other SmartPhones).
    - Roaming & Calling-Card support.
    - And more...

    The application is already fully tested on other dialing platforms (such as the Handspring VisorPhone, Samsung SPH-I300, Kyocera 6035, etc.), so the only thing to test for is integration with the Treo dialing mechanism and Rocker-Switch.

    Anyone interested in getting a BETA copy, please email me at shimon@shsh.com.

    Sorry - but only the first 10 will participate in the BETA.
    Of course - anyone else interested can recieve the trial version.

    Thanks in advance -
    Shimon Shnitzer

    Your app is better than pretty but bloated phonemate.

    Hi,

    Just added:

    - Ability to enter single chars from the Treo keyboard to search (not just the 'ABC' on-screen keypad - although I personally preffer the latter, because of the bigger buttons).

    - Accented (umlauts) letters support.

    - Jog-Dial support.

    Anyone intersted in a pre-release version - email me at: takephone@shsh.com

    Thanks -

    How about integrating with the Handspring EyeContact SW ?
    (i.e - allowing to add Pictures or Mug Scatches from MatchWho)

    I have no idea if you are using the Treo contact view, if you do - it's main disadvantage is that it does not show Extra Symbols other then numbers, which does not allow to see remarks written in the phone number fields (for instance an extension name within a company) - Of course there is no need to dial them - But at least let us use the extra space to view additional information, as in the "old" Address-Book application.

    Also, if you can over-pass the treo inability to dial extra characters in a single stroke without having to push the extra digits button of the screen... (This is just annoying when you need to add Pwd going into the voicemail or etc. )

    Hi,

    1. EyeContact - I will look at it...

    2. Could you give me an example of a phone field content ?

    3. I do not have a Treo device myself, but maybe you can try defining a number NOT with extra digits, but with a 'P' or 'X' between the main number and the extension/pwd ?

    As to #2 - If you don't have TREO you will not be able to see what I meant.

    As to #3 - It's probably not it, as the SW eliminates any symbols before dialing - which is basically smart & useful,
    just that handspring made it in a way that you can add extra digits only via an extra digits field, and not allowing to write those extra digits in quick dial as part of the number itself, only by selecting another SW button you can send these strings.
    I assume the extra digits button can come in handy in certain cases, but would have prefered to have both ways.

    p.s. - If your name suggests of your location, I might be able to show you how it looks on my TREO unit.

    Hi,

    Item #2 - Just write how you want to enter it, how you want to see it, and how you want to dial it.

    Item #3 - You can enter it this way using TAKEphONE - It worked for me with VisorPhone...

    Yes - I am from where you think I am...

    Hi,

    Well - after developing my TAKEphONE s/w for use with the Handspring Treo - WITHOUT HAVING A DEVICE ! -
    The big day has come - today, at last, I am going to get a device for a week or so.

    I can't wait to see how my app. makes this device more friendly
    (or not ?)

    Hi,

    Wow how I envy you guys - I have been using the Treo 180g device I got from the Handspring representatives here (only for a week for testing and intergrating with my TAKEphONE s/w).

    I must say - if I was not a new member of the High-Tech unemployed community, I would certanily buy me such a device -
    Now only is it damm good looking, it si olso SO SO SO usefull !

    And to top this - I have managed to improve my TAKEphONE s/w even more, so integration with this device is the best.
    I have set it to launch TAKEphONE upon Flip-Lid open, and upon a press on the "Phone" button, so I basically run the device from within TAKEphONE.

    It makes making calls SO easy ...
    Uncompared to any other cellular phone I know of - it is really a Smart Phone !

    Anyway - as I have said - I completed the integration, and have published the new version - TAKEphONE 4.62 on www.handango.com and www.palmgear.com

    So feel free to try it !

    Keep up the good job TakePhone dude. I hope you make enough money on TakePhone to buy yourself a Treo. I will try out the app.

    Great work Shimon! This is a almost full replacement for the Phonebook on my Treo. Certainly it has the best user interface and front end I have seen. A few things stop me using it as the default Phonebook though:-

    1. No radio icons in the title bar. These are vital when using the phone, to make sure the wireless is switched on and I have good signal before attempting to make a call, and to check phone status when in a data call. The Phonebook is the only place I can do this (The icons are also available in the default applications launcher, but I'm using Launcher III which similarly does not support the Treo radio). It seems to me the "device selected" text on the top line (Mobile Treo) is superflous - could we see the cellphone Active, Signal Strength and Battery icons instead?

    2. I cannot find a way of changing the Company, Last, First field order in the search window. As many of my contacts work for the same company, most of the useful info is lost. (I have the Phonebook and Action Names set to First, Last, Company)

    3. An option to use the small font in the search window would be nice. After 3 keypresses, I usually have way more than three entries found. Using the small font would reduce scrolling, and also show more of the name information.

    I realise that my experience is based purely on the Treo, whereas the program is aimed at all Palms and Palm OS Smartphones, but maybe the above "enhancements" would be useful on those too?

    Hi,

    If you use the lates version, you can just scroll down, and the "ZOOM" form will be open, with 10 records list (or buttons - view can be selected). It can also be open tapping the "ZOOM/Details" button on the list right-hand side.

    Regarding the other items - I will look into it, stay tuned...

    Thanks,

    Hello Shimon!

    My suggestion for Treo programming from HS developing info:

    Signal Strength & Battery Level Indicator

    Displaying the signal strength and battery level of the Treo is very easy to do and only takes a few lines of code. This method will allow you to display the same signal strength and battery level icons that are displayed in the Launcher and other built-in applications thus allowing you to maintain a consistent look and feel of the UI. NOTE: This procedure does not apply to VisorPhone. We do not have a way to display the signal strength and module battery level on the VisorPhone. The resource format in the example shown below is for RCP files. For CodeWarrior resource files, please consult the appropriate documentation.

    The signal strength and battery level are system gadgets that can be displayed on any form. The first step is to add two gadget resources to your main form as shown below:
    // System status gadget so width and height are actually ignored
    // Place these gadgets on the upper-right corner of the form
    GADGET ID MainSignalLevelGadget AT (130 0 16 12)
    GADGET ID MainBatteryLevelGadget AT (150 0 10 12)
    In my header file I have defined the IDs as,
    #define MainSignalLevelGadget 1010
    #define MainBatteryLevelGadget 1011
    NOTE:
    These values will depend on your particular resource file
    To tell the system to use the above gadgets to display the appropriate information, use the following code sample:
    ..
    UInt32 hsStatusVersion;

    if (FtrGet (hsFtrCreator, hsFtrIDStatusGadgetRev, &hsStatusVersion) == 0)
    { HsStatusSetGadgetType (frmP, MainBatteryLevelGadget, hsStatusGadgetBattery);
    HsStatusSetGadgetType (frmP, MainSignalLevelGadget, hsStatusGadgetSignal);
    }
    ..
    NOTE:
    This should be called after the FrmDrawForm() call. The frmP variable should be the pointer to the active form. Typically one would put this in the frmOpenEvent event handling routine. All the Hs* functions and values are defined in the HsExt.h file.

    Once the gadgets are "installed" they will automatically be updated based on the current battery level and state (charging or not) and the signal level. No additional code is required.

    This looks encouraging...
    Re: fonts - I'd like to see more entries at the main screen stage so I know if I need to enter more letters to narrow the search. If I go to the Zoom page I lose that option. Then the only way to find the right person is to scroll through all the entries found, which can be long winded. I have a piece of our corporate directory in there, including many entries with the same or similar names. Even on the Zoom page there are only 10 entries shown because of the large font. I appreciate this makes it very easy to read, but it would be nice to have the option to use the smaller font to see more at once without scrolling, particularly if it turns out the name I want isn't there and I have to go back and search again.

    Nice to see a helping hand appearing with the relevant bit of code for the wireless icons. Might be worth passing this on to the Launcher III author too, to see if he can incorporate it into the next version (LauncherX?)

    I want it all at once don't I!

    Hi,

    Well - I now have radio & battery icons, fixed the sorting issue (can work with the first->last->company sort order).

    Regarding Item 3 - you can narrow your search even more by using the "..And.." button, allowing you to search for "SH" and "E"...

    Hi Shimon.

    You might try & use the Treo's improved search options.

    There might be information about it in HS Documents.

    It allows quick search by first 1 or 2 letters from either First name, Last name or combinations.
    xxY, Yxx, xY, Yx, xYY etc.

    1. I am not sure I can use the same method (have to check if no patent is pending, etc.).

    2. You can use the "..And.." button in TAKEphONE to get a similar effect (with on-screen buttons larger than those of the keyboard):
    E.g. - For "John Doe", you can use - "JKL", "MNO", "..And..", "DEF"
