In Sweden Treo 180 cost a hilarius ridiculus $850. If you try to buy it from Germany or UK the prices are almost as high due to high initiating prices and exchange rates that have nothing to do with the market. While a lot of things are happening in USA, all of Handsprings officies in Europe(500 million people) do nothing. The only marketing I have seen I Europe is the German retail company Media und Markt who offers Treo 180 for $658. This company is offering Nokia 9210 ( a communicator with color far better than Treo) + free digital camera for $731.
Rostock is a daytrip($20) away from home so I donít understand who is paying the Swedish price. 65% of all homes in Sweden has Internet and 99,9% of prospective buyers of Treo 180 can use Internet. It take 2 minutes and the ability to write Treo 180 in the rigth column to know the prizes all over the world. Handspring has today a leading position in the priceclass $500, but give your competitors three months and they will leave you behind. The Treo idea is not original and can easily be copied. Handspring is missing the golden opportunity by greedienes. They will only sell to ignorant and stupid people in Europe and there are not so many of them here

    Sad but true...

I could have gotten the 9210 for $200 with activation, if I had wanted. But the Nokia lacks GPRS (ok, the Treo still does so, too, but not for long anymore, I hope!), a digitzer, the ability to fit into a pocket easily and the power and ease of use of Palm OS. And who wants a Nokia, anyway?

As long as there is no alternative in Europe (there is none yet), Handspring can charge any price for their Treos. But as soon as there are other manufacturers offering similar products, the prices will drop due to the normal working of the markets. This is happening in the US at the moment where there are other Palm OS smartphones.

The Treo idea is not original and can easily be copied. Handspring is missing the golden opportunity by greedienes. They will only sell to ignorant and stupid people in Europe and there are not so many of them here
Call me ignorant or stupid, but I ordered my Treo at the Media Markt, with activation, for $500. Thats is because I just like that gadget and the price seems reasonable to me for what the device will do during the next say two years. And then I would not mind if the market had changed a lot then, and hi-res color Palm OS handsets with GSM, UMTS, Bluetooth and 802.11b were available for the amount of a cup of mocca.

Oh, and by the way, I could arrange for a Treo to be sent to me from the US, but this way, I would trade in the 1800MHz band that is very useful here in Germany for the 1900MHz band I would never use.

I don't think it's verry fair to blaim Handspring for the price of their Treos. When we are living in the EU, we are paying VAT on the Treos. I do not want to discuss the height of this tax, but I find it not bad to pay some taxes, where we in the EU have far more public services than in the US.

So compairing the price of the Treo between the US and the EU is like compairing apples and pears.
