are treos that one buys for $399 with voicestream/cingular plan locked to these carriers? could i buy a phone under a cingular plan and use a voicestream sim card in it?

are the $399 subsidized treos disabled in any way when compared to the $599 unsubsidized phones?

My $399 Treo from Best Buy worked with both another Voicestream card and a Italian TIM card without problems.

I think Cingular Treos are locked but VoiceStream's are not.

How can you find out if your phone is locked or not?

I have a Treo with Voicestream service and am going to England in August. I already have a SIM card from an English provider that I would like to use in my Treo while over there. (The provider is called '1 to 1' I think).

Will I be able to do this?

Have you tried the second sim in your treo?
If it is locked it will probably give you an error message..

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

My treo ( w/ voicestream as carrier - brought it directly from HS website) is working with both Cingular sim card & Asia 900 MHZ sim.
I tried them all and it works just fine.

First I'd like to say Hi. So, Hi.

I'm in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and bought my Treo about 4 weeks ago (actually company bought it) Anyway, 2 days ago the unit started to act as though the ear bud was always plugged in - ie: couldn't hear the caller by placing the phone up to my ear and the handsfree option on the screen was no longer available. Plug in the ear bud and everything was ok. HS tech support suggested I go back to where I bought it from (Future Shop) and have them replace it. I went back and we just swapped phones. I kept my box, accessories, and SIM card. When I popped the SIM card in to the new Treo, it came up with an error regarding an incorrect SIM card for that IMEI. I called Rogers AT&T and within moments the girl on the other end had me enter a code into the phone and, voila it worked again.

    Akrus Welcome to the boards!

Hope the weather is nice n Kitchener. I believe all Treos sold in retails stores in Canada are locked to the Rogers network..which is unforunate.

If you have a Voicestream phone, there is no lock. The guy that sold me the phone at the store told me there was one because I asked him, but Voicestream tech support told me that there is no lock on the phone and offered to help if I was having problems putting in another sim.

Anyone know about SIM lock in SoCal with Cingular? Getting the 270 soon (I hope) and wondering about switching out when travelling...
