Since I lost my USB data cable for my Treo 680, I've bought a new one which seems to plug in just fine.

When I press the hot-sync button, hot-sync starts, and claims to be "Identifying User". But, then it quickly fails, and reports the following error:
"Unable to initiate HotSync operation due to system error."

Could it be that my replacement cable is defective?
Does the Treo need to be reset? (I hate doing that.)

Any thoughts would be most welcome.
