I dont have a Pre yet, but plan on getting one after some of the initial problems are worked out. I have read that the default phone application is underwhelming.

I want to bring back the topic of how great it would be to get TakePhone on the Pre. Since many Palm users use TakePhone and will be switching to the Pre, then developing a native version of TP for WebOS would be a big success.

    Hi,

I do get tons of emails asking for this.

Problem is I cant say if I will be able to do this, yet -
Still did not get access to the Palm Pre SDK (developers interface), so I dont know if it allows us developers the access I need to telephony functions in order to port TAKEphONE.

Maybe Palm guys are reading this ?

    Hi Shimon,

Got my hands on a GSM Pre Plus, installed MotionsApps Classic, the Garnett V5.4.9 emulator and the good news is that TakePhone (7.80_001) runs flawlessly and, through ClassicHelper, allows sending of SMS & e-mails.

The bad news is that straight phone dialing stalls, though one can always open the Contact and use ClassicHelper to dial the proper phone number.

Of course it would be much nicer if the option of choosing ClassicHelper was built in TP telephony preferences...

    All the best.

ClassicHelper is a PalmOs helper (as selectable in TP Helpers prefs.) provided by Motion Apps with Classic that allows to start phone calls & to send SMSs & e-mails that are handed to WebOs (Classic for webOS - Technical Specifications - MotionApps)

    Hi,

I see it says it does enable making calls, so why TAKEphONE can not dial out of the box ?

What do you mean by using ClassicHelper from the contacts app ?

Can't find a place to tell me what I should do to enable calling...

    Hi Shimon,

TP does initiate a PalmOS dial, but that does not lauch the Webos dialing app.

Within TP when one taps to open a contact this opens the Palm contact app, right ?
There, under Classic, one gets a small icon that opens a "Quick Connect" (ClassicHelper) windows that allows to make a phone call through the WebOs dialing app.
See Customer Support - MotionApps for further details.

Maybe you could get in touch with Motion Apps ? They might help checking why starting a phone call does not trigger the same behavior than initiating an SMS or e-mail, and/or allow ShSh software to use classichelper as an extra dialer in an updated version of TP.

Last but not least, if there was a way to synchronize the phoneCallDB on the PalmOS side with its counterpart on the WebOS side, it would be wonderfull...
