lots of folks were saying that they don't like the default purple color of text in the messaging windows - i've posted new files that will change that to a number of different colors. check the skins messaging section of my website for those

Could you do another set with a light gray? I'm thinking the current might be a but hard to read in sunlight on a black background:

The 'Chat' color would be great.

nope the only colors you can use for text color are those already available. check prefs chat color dropdown for the color choices

Gotcha. I figure if the gray's too dark then I can just do this:

Edit: I use the Shadows theme in SkinUI & that changes the font to white.. is there a way you can leave the message color untouched and just change the name color?

Sorry if it's a lost cause, just thought it'd be worth a shot.

try the one with "black" text - it actually uses what the messaging app calls the "current" color - which in your case may be white? i thought it was always black. i wish i knew how skinui did what it does for everything :P

also, since i was asked by a bunch of people about other colors, i looked into that. i can't find anything in any of the messaging files that seems to indicate *what* the colors are - just shorthand identifiers for each color. if that makes sense... i'm guessing they're referenced to the system's pallette (since skinui changes them) or maybe another file elsewhere where colors are defined? if this is the case it'd probably be a bad idea to use different colors, since that'd substitute purple throughout the system with x color

That was my first thought, to try one with black. But it stays black, & that's DEFINITELY not readable But I'm VERY happy with the gray, as long as I finally got rid of that disgusting purple haha.

I can't get the "All White Skin" on the bottom to load on my Sprint Treo 755p. The "Mac Messaging" skin loaded, but I can't replace it. The others just install to RAM and make no change that I can see.

I saw the post to delete nexter_spcs and this has returned me to the default, but I'd like to see the other messaging skins in action. I think it would be a good idea to post that removal procedure on the top of the Messaging Skins page or in the Tutorials section. Tx!

UPDATE: I'm finding that if I delete nexter_spcs before each install it works fine. It's just my possessed Treo. Plus I didn't like the Mac skin because the envelopes were cut off at the bottom due to the small font I use in Messaging. I moved up to Droid9 and it looks good - though I'm sticking with the All White.

When I send smilies from my Verizon Centro to my girlfriend's Verizon LG phone, she doesn't get the graphic. She gets the ASCII characters that one would use to create a smilie (e.g. colon + hyphen + right paren for a smile). Anyone know why that is? Also, she used to be able to send me pictures but can't do that anymore either. This all started when I went from an LG VX8300 phone to a Treo 755p and now a Centro. Thanks. thorne

Those smileys are only visible to you locally. The recipient will always receive the standard ascii character. IF they have the same set on their device, then they will see what you do. If they have another set, they will see whatever that set converts it to. Bummer, but that's how is goes...

scott, thanks for the update - i'll add that info to the messaging skins page (to delete nexter_spcs) next I get a chance. let me know of any requests you hve for messaging skins. I need more ideas!

    Phwelo,
Just realized that the messaging color also affects Explorer as I was unable to see the text there as well. Once I ran the uninstaller it all came back. Guess I'll have to live with the Purple for now. I'm not sure if it affected other apps as well though.

    Phwelo,
I got a request for a new project. Think you could skin the Calendar app. I know there are apps out there that does this but in line with your concept on changing things without running an app, I think this would be a welcomed addition. If others would like this, please pile on.
