While my Avantgo continues to uplink from my VDX, the avantgo.com website has been dead for three days (atleast for me). Things have to be pretty bad for a publically traded online company to go inexplicably dark for days at a time. Has anyone been able to access the Avantgo website lately or know what is up?

My office PC was "upgraded" on Thursday (yeah, I'm still recovering from all the damage) and suddenly I was no longer able to access AvantGo. I was blaming the upgrade, but maybe the problem was on AvantGo's end. Either way, as of this PM I was able to connect to AvantGo again and update my channels, so maybe they're back in business again.

Its Tuesday afternoon and I still can't log into Avantgo; could this be a Northeast thing?

I just logged on without any problem and have been sycning just fine. The site's been redesigned since I visited a week or so ago.

Are you getting any kind of error message or is the connection just timing out?

Are you on a proxy server? If the site's changed, maybe IP address has changed and the proxy servers cache has not been updated.

Or it could be a problem with an upstream provider. Try doing a tracert to avantgo.com and see where if there's holdup somewhere along the line.

Shucks, I dunno but it sure sounded good, dinit?

Actually, first see if you can ping the server by getting to a DOS prompt and typing "ping avantgo.com" (dont include the quotes)

You should get a response that looks something like this:

Pinging avantgo.com [64.157.224.6] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 64.157.224.6: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=54
    Reply from 64.157.224.6: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=54
    Reply from 64.157.224.6: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=54
    Reply from 64.157.224.6: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=54

    Ping statistics for 64.157.224.6:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 22ms, Average = 21ms

Make sure the IP address listed in the results is 64.157.224.6
If it's not, then most likely you have a proxy server that is storing an old, out of date IP address for the avantgo.com host. Your client could also be storing it. Have you tried rebooting yet?

If the IP address listed is correct, but the ping times out, then from the DOS promt type "tracert avantgo.com"
A tracert will show you the route and number of hops that your network packet takes to reach its destination.

You can search the web for more detailed information on how to interpret the results of a ping or tracert. Here's a bit:
    http://narcy.com/tracert.htm

    Good luck.

I recently jumped on another machine and had no problem getting to the Avantgo homepage. Why on earth would my browser deny access to the site? I use Zonealarm, but have never had a firewall or proxy server issue with Avantgo in the past...

I know the old trick of hitting reload while olding down the shift key, and that hasn't made a difference. I am truly perplexed.

Simultaniously, I haven't been able to log into Hushmail, and I get the same 401 error message (I had no problems logging into that page on another machine either).

    What could be wrong?

Did you determine the IP address that the machine is trying for avantgo.com yet?

you can do an easy traceroute with 'neotrace' it gives you a map of the world and shows you exactly where your connection is going.
    http://www.vi2.com/maxForumFiles/aaadeley.gif

neotrace is so cool. this is just a capture of the map, it also gives you a list aoff all the routers you went through and a whois on the domain name. The yellow question mark is san mateo, which can be seen in the whois, but is not on the program's map.

See? like a priceline flight, its not the most direct route, but it gets you there.
