I haven't been here in a while and my warranty is almost up. I've wanted to replace my phone but I've put it off. I tried to search and don't remember if there is an app. that will backup or copy the text messages? I would really like to keep them. Also, what happened to all of the posts? Thanks!

There is an app called Treodesktop, http://www.treodesktop.com/

If you NVbackup or Resco backup or Hotsync even, the text messages are stored in the database called Messages_Database.pdb you will see this file in the backup directory for Hotsync and the other backup programs. If you want to restore your text messages to a new phone restore this database to your new phone. Very simple

If your PC has bluetooth, then I think you can do a standard hotsync (using the com port support of bluetooth), not exactly sure how to set that up, but I believe you need to setup a COM port in your bluetooth drivers, then you would setup HotSync on the PC to use that port, then on the Centro you would set the Hotsync app to use Bluetooth to hotsync, then you should be able to tap the big hotsync button in the Centro Hotsync app to back up the device to your PC.

Otherwise, if you have a MicroSD card available you can use the free NVbackup to backup your Centro to the card (then take the card out to use in the new device).

for a mac, you can use Phone Journal

You have to do all of the conversations. The file will be probably be under a megabyte. Won't take too long to copy, couple of minutes or so. Hotsync should be on the disc that came with the Centro or download it here:

If you have a MicroSD card, it will probably be a lot easier to use NVbackup.

Yes, you would download NVBackup to your phone.

    http://mytreo.net/downloads/nv-backup,1090.html

Then I think you would want to copy it on to the MicroSD card as well.

I'm sorry to hear that. But rather than going behind her back to "make sure" - why don't you try to talk to her first and ask what's going on? I think many cheating relationships could have been stopped if only the other person stopped and tried to have a real conversation with the assumed-cheater. No good can come from you sneaking behind her back - either you find out she's been cheating (bad) or you don't find anything, but you destroyed her trust by invading her privacy (bad!!).

Sorry Floyd It sounds to me like she already ended it, and it's time to move on. Some girls aren't brave enough to do the right thing and tell you outright what's going on - they're just hoping you get the hint.

However, I don't know enough about the background - it's also possible she didn't do anything - she's just pissed that you don't trust her and you're being overly possessive.

BTW..sorry to throw this thread off topic - TreoDesktop is great if you're moving to a non-Palm phone!

    Probably NVBackup would be quicker.

If she has an email app on her phone just email the Messages_Database.pdb to yourself. Then use Treodesktop to read the messages.

The other fastest option is to get a memory card and put FileZ on it. Put the card in the phone and launch filez then use it to copy the Messages_Database.pdb to the memory card. Make sure FileZ wasn't copied to main memory and delete if so. Remove the card and you're done. Open the Messages_Database.pdb file with Treodesktop.

NVBackup maybe problematic because it may not simply copy the file. I know it renames the file not sure if it does anything else to it. I know compression can be turned on or off. So if you don't have another Palm phone to restore to you maybe SOL.

Peter, I was just thinking the same thing when I read the rest of the thread. FileZ would be an easy way to get just that database out.

    http://mytreo.net/downloads/filez,3.html

It is free and when you launch FileZ you will be able to find the .pdb in the area called Internal Memory.

The problem with emailing the file is it would use your girlfriends email account and data plan (she does have a dataplan?). Also, if yuo can't get FileZ to work, I doubt you will have much luck trying to email the file.

Treodesktop is great but not freeware. Once you've located the message.pdb file, you can use sms2csv to convert it to csv format and subsequently open it in a spreadsheet.

    http://mylivy.net/sms2csv/sms2csv.php

There's also a free Dos utility if you want to perform command line conversions yourself.

The PRC file is the one you would download and run from the phone. You wouldn't need the microsd card in that case. However, you would need to temporarily setup versamail to your yahoo account to send the .pdb file from FileZ.

As a side thought, if any messages have been deleted on the Centro, this procedure will not recover any of them.

    Hi FloydTheDuck,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but what you are asking for would be immoral and probably illegal and TC will not allow those kinds of activities.
It is her phone and if she doesnt want to share that information that is (unfortunately for you) her right.

Maybe you should just ask her if anything is going on.

    Good luck
