I had to re-format my hard disk this weekend, and am now having a problem re-installing the Palm Desktop and Hot Sync. I use a Treo 700p, with Windows XP on my computer. After installing Palm Desktop, the Install routine tells me to Hot Sync. As soon as the connection is made, a popup window on my computer asks if I want to establish a new account on the PC, and asks for a password. Since I don't have any idea what password the Install is asking for, I can't go anyplace.

Do you have admin rights on the XP user account? Have you setup Outlook?

Yes, I am the administrator. Outlook 2007 is installed, but I can't get that far.

Have you run Outlook at all? Outlook has a little wizard that runs on first use. The profile bit is reminiscent of that wizard. If you cannot start Outlook, it is an Outlook problem that is causing the problems and not neccessarily the Palm install.

Are you also using the palm software for Outlook 2007?

Tech support said the password request was for the password for the 700p, since I was syncing with a 'new' computer. Once I put that in, the hotsync went just fine.
