I use "SkinUI" from http://palmpowerups.com & it IS freeware.

You have to download additional skins for it which take up additional space, but once you find a skin you like just delete the others to save the space.

It takes a little configuring to your personal liking to make it not quite so obtrusive, but otherwise seems to be a great skin software. It has alot of little effects like fading in/out, spinning windows, lots of animations that sometimes become a bit too much "flash" and cut into the functionality of the device. A perfect example I encountered is that the "fade" animation took too long on some screens where I found myself waiting on it before I could continue the task I was performing. Thankfully, the program allows you to modify alot of the settings so that you can get it to work just the way you want it to. This is, of course, going to be different for every user so a little setup / config time is going to be necessary.

    Just my .02... enjoy. L8R.

another vote for skinui! I've got it on my centro and love it. you can try Colorize too (also freeware). it doesn't do "skins" like skinui, but you can go in and change almost everything to the color of your choice.

If you're looking to change the general look across the board, then the previous poster's suggestion of Skinui (and I'd add Palmrevolt as an option, also) is the way to go. However, if I understand your question correction, it's the phone screen itself that you'd like to replace, and neither Skinui or Palmrevolt will do that. You can go a couple of different directions with that:

    free, but tricky: http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...t=pink+smilies

(you'll have to dig through the thread for pics/downloads)

3rd party software: Takephone (my personal favorite, because of the added functionality it gives my phone)

    http://www.shsh.com/

There's a HUGE selection of Takephone skins (i.e. different colors, graphics, wallpaper backgrounds, etc.) over at:

    Hope this helps!

If it's literally true that all that is wanted is to change the background color, how about Colorize? (Be sure your popup blocker is working.) It won't impose the performance reduction that SkinUI does.

Oops - I see this was suggested in an earlier post. Pardon the repetition.

I'll second the vote for TAKEphone as well if you are just wanting to change the look / function of your phone & contacts screen. I use TAKEphone as well & love it.

Takephone should work fine on the Centro. Probably isn't listed because the site hasn't been updated yet. As for the colors with Skinui, I'm afraid I can't help you there. Perhaps someone with more experience with this feature of Skinui?
