took my wifes treo (she broke it, and i fixed it), and am interested in getting it to be a standalone gps unit, among other things. I already have a phone, so i would like to play with this one, and see what it can do. I will be purchasing a 8gb card, and really didn't want to spend much more money. I do not have a data plan, and don't want to use data.

So heres the challenge, how cheap can i go, and still have a working system?
    -i don't NEED POI
    -i don't NEED BT
    -i only need US navigation
(of course, these things would be nice though!)

    Thanks!

The TomTom that Palm used to have, you can try to get on ebay cheap. Those would have a GPS with them.

I know you said, you don't need BT, only navigation. There are only two things I can think of:
GPS with Software or Data service and using something like Google Maps.

Nothing free is going to handle what you are after.
