    Hello,

I recently purchased several 755p accessories from Seidio. One was the retractable HotSync cable. When I got it I tested it out and it charged and synced fine, but a couple of weeks later when I was traveling I tried using it for my Phone as a Modem connection and discovered that it does not work. The OEM cable worked fine, even when swapped back and forth so the same USB port same Treo, etc was being used.

I have an RMA, though annoyingly I'm going to have to spend my own money to ship it back for a replacement. But before I choose to replace it I wanted to see whether this is a one-off defect or whether perhaps this Seidio retractable HotSync cable does not work for tethering.

Has anyone successfully tethered using this item? Has anyone had the same problems I'm having?

    Thanks!

    Jason,

We can definitely get you a replacement if need be, but you may want to try contacting technical support first. Call 832-204-1118 and ask for Kelvin. He's one of our best technical support specialists and may be able to help you.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the reply! I tried just now but got a voicemail message that tech support are not available at this time (2pm Eastern time).

In any case, this is a very simple situation to diagnose. I have a laptop and a Treo, and in between the two I can put either the cable I purchased from you or the cable that came from Palm.

    • When I put in the cable that came from Palm, the Sprint Phone as Modem software recognizes the phone and can use it as a modem.

    • When I remove that cable and put in your cable, the laptop does not recognize it.

    • Switch back to the OEM it works, switch to yours it does not, and so forth.

There are no switches or settings, it's just a straight-through cable, and since the setup works fine with the OEM cable it is clear at least to me that the problem is with the cable itself.

The reason for my post is that since I'm required to pay the cost of returning the defective item, I wanted to find out whether this was an exception or the norm, since I really don't want to end up with another cable and find out that your cables don't do what I need. If it turns out no one can use your cable for tethering, then I will just return this one and get a replacement from another vendor.
