Might it be possible to introduce a (rather substantial) new feature to TakePhone which would allow typing a note as an event/memo, accompanied by logging of the call data, to be inserted into the calendar and/or memo DBs while the call is ongoing, similar to the separate app YourCallPro ?

    thanks, ~ John

Responding to myself - but seeking the experience of others & Shimon -
I think I've found a way to do this now. It seems to work to, during a call, in TakePhone, navigate to Call-Log, select the current call, do menu/save to Journal (menu-J), whereupon DateBk6 Daily Journal opens with the call info printed, and a note can be typed in even while the call is ongoing. Seems to work ok. Anyone else do this, any reason not to?

Responding again to myself - last time, I promise - I find that the workaround I posted yesterday in first response was incorrect. I made an error in testing. The log entry is not completed until the call is completed, so the journal entry of log data if made *during* a call is for the most recent prior call, not the call in process. Doesn't work.

So, I return to my original query to Shimon; any possibility of such a feature?

    Thanks, ~ John

Does TakePhone handle phone calls? I thought it was just a dialer. Something you should try is Snap by SplashData. It's a scratchpad program that will allow you to dump data to various programs. I'm not sure if you can go directly to the call log but you can at least get everything typed in there and then copy and paste it all when the call is completed. The biggest benefit is the ability to dump all or part of your notes to the calendar program (with date and time), contacts (transfers phone numbers and everything), or memos. Very flexible program. I'm just not sure if it could dump to the call log or not.

Thanks, Cavingjan - I have used Snap in the past, but that is not what I'm looking for. Indeed, TakePhone is a *lot* more than just a dialer. For example, it is integrated to some extent with Pimlico DateBk6 such that there is a menu command in the log screen of TakePhone that will paste the call log info directly into the DateBk Daily Journal. What I currently do is, while on a call, on speaker, use a pToolSet pScript to open my DateBk6 Daily Journal with one hard button press/hold, and write my note. Then after the call is done and in the log, use the TakePhone "save to Journal" command to put the call log data in Daily Journal in DateBk immediately following the note I wrote during the call.
What I'm asking Shimon to consider is a feature that would automate such a process, with choices to log the combined note and call info to Journal, or memo, or datebook event, or calendar note. This would clearly be a major addition, maybe even a version jump, or maybe a new separate app but coordinated with TakePhone. There is currently an app something like this, YourCallPro, but I find it more difficult to use efficiently than the method I'm currently using described above.

    Hi,

From what I understand, you are saying if you are within a call, and select the call details from the TAKEphONE FIND screen "last call" line, then "Save to journal" - you get the previous call details there ?

If that is so - I will try to fix this.
Then I guess you will have half of what you're looking for.
The problem that will remain is the length of the call (when it ends) will not be recorded in that journal entry...

    Hi Shimon -

Thanks for responding. I had not tried it the way you just described. I was going to the TakePhone Call log screen during the call, and, as the current call in progress is not logged until the call is ended, trying to do menu/save to journal from there saves the data of the call logged prior to the current one in progress (of course!). *But*, I just now tried it the way you describe from the TakePhone Find screen "last call" line/more actions/save to journal. The problem is, not only is the length of the call not recorded (of course, since still in progress), which would not be a problem for me, but *none* of the call data is recorded. What is recorded in Daily Journal doing it this way is the start time of the call, followed by "In a call with ". No name, number. Presumably the name and number data are available, but apparently not being "seen" by the FIND screen last call function. If you could make it so that that data can be transferred to Daily Journal *during* a call, that would do it for me (and I hope for others). I think I could automate the sequence with a pScript.

    regards, John

Addendum - it's better than I thought - no need for a pScript. Selecting the "last call" line/more actions in Find is not necessary. As long as the Find screen is open with the "last call" line present, just doing menu/J prints to the Journal, but without the data. JM

    Hi,

Just checked it - for both outgoing and incoming calls - once the call connected, I went to TAKEphONE and selected Menu+J - then I saw the journal with the name (if existed) and the number of the person on the line.

Do you have a different expirience ?

    Hi Shimon -

Well, well. I had not tried it with outgoing calls, and upon doing so, sure enough, it works properly just as you describe. Furthermore the options to log to Event, Float, or ToDo also place the number called as expected.
My testing of incoming call was by calling my Treo from my home landline (calling myself), whereupon during the call the last call line in Edit says only "on a call with", and that is what gets put in the Journal. After hanging up (on myself) the full call data is recorded in the log, and menu/J then prints the full data to Journal. My home line does not have ID blocking on, so I don't know what this means. I'll check with a real incoming call from someone else.
It appears that I've generated an unnecessary thread, except for getting myself educated. I had not realized the power and possibilities of the "last call line" feature in the list view of the Edit Screen. So thank you for the education, and the superb TakePhone.

    Hi Shimon -

There *is* a problem with incoming calls, and I wonder if it may be a hardware issue. I'm using a Verizon Treo 755p. As I reported yesterday, the outgoing works for me the same as for you. *But*, now I've received seven different calls from different people/phone numbers, none of them with caller ID blocked, and the same thing always happens. During the call, the "last call" line reads only "On a call with", and menu-J puts the start time and those words, "On a call with", in the Daily Journal. As soon as the call is completed the "last call" line changes to the full data for the call and menu-J puts that in the Daily Journal as expected. In contrast, with an outgoing call, all the data (except, of course, the ending time) shows in the "last call" line and is transferred with menu-J during as well as after the call. What next?

    thanks, John

    Hi all,

    version 7.55 (028) posted at www.shsh.com/beta

    - Journal: added option automatically open DayNotez when
    creating a journal entry

    - Display: refresh time & date display only when time changes
(every minute, and not every second).

    - Display: fixed title text scrambling in "Dialpad" screen.

    - Treo: possible fix for incoming call not showing name/number
in "last call" line (while call exists).

    Thanks.

Yes! You nailed it. Works correctly for incoming as well as outgoing now on my Treo 755p. My personal pantheon of most excellent and responsive developers has now increased from two to three; CESD, Paul Nevai, and... you. Thank you. Having this capability fully meets the needs that prompted my initial query in this thread.
