I can certainly understand the excitement of the Verizon customers about Monday's launch of the 755. I waited forever for it until I finally jumped ship to get it from Sprint. But, with that being said, I just can't fathom why anyone would even want one from Verizon considering how easy it is get on Sprint's SERO plan with free unlimited data. As of three months ago Verizon was charging around $50 per month for their unlimited data plan. Obviously, if you can't get coverage with Sprint it's not even a consideration but, if you do get good coverage, one could make up for a full ETF within months after switching.

One of you early adopters please let us all know if the "lag" is fixed...thanks!

Just an opinion, of course, but I think if I was on Verizon, I would make sure I went and played with a Centro before I took the 755 plunge. I jumped to a 755 on Sprint because of my crappy 700 (also on Sprint) and soon after the Centro was released. If you dig on the size of the Centro, it is IMO the superior device. And for what it's worth, I don't think the 755 on Verizon will be anymore "fixed" than the Sprint version. I can't go into any more details so take that for what it is.

I'm glad to see VZW is finally releasing the 755, but I also jumped ship to Sprint because of how long VZW was taking. And I'm in the same camp with DougI. If VZW gets the Centro, I'll very seriously consider switching back. For the exact same reasons as DougI. There is one place that I go to in the summer quite a bit and there is no telephone (land line). I had Sprint on the last trip I made there and it was unreliable. And from what I've seen online they won't be expanding there for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, hkklife asked some very good questions. I'm curious as to whether they gave some upgrades to some of the software since it is releasing 8 months after Sprint.

Also...is OnDemand only a Sprint thing? I'm no a sports nut, but I've really come to love the Sports available in OnDemand. I can give DH stats/scores in mere seconds. He was so impressed he actually asked me if he could get a Centro for that alone.

So those of you who have the 755P in hand...please post some details.

I would hate to think that Verizon took all of these months to approve the 755P and not make any improvements, but stranger thing have happened.

This is great news. I tried out aSamsung i760 on Monday, took me less than 3 hours to decide a)don't like WM, and b)didn't like a slider phone. Want the keyboard on the outside for ease of 1 hand useage. Resigned to keeping 2.5 yr old 650 until 755/Centro or Curve comes to vzw.

    What is ADD discount?

I think the process of approving the 755 was making sure it worked on the Verizon network. I wouldn't think Verizon makes improvements to the phone itself. <shrug>

This is great news. I went from a 650p to a 700w a year and a half ago. I wanted to try out the windows software. It was not long before I decided I wanted the Palm OS again, but I had read about problems with the 700p so I stayed with the W. Now the 700w is pretty much toast. It has so many problems and I have gotten tired of trying to fix them all. Half the apps don't work right and it won't hotsync anymore. I have been waiting for the 755p since November to be released on Verizon.

I wonder if anyone at Palm feels as guilty as I do selling the 700p knowing how terrible it is and how many problems it has. Doubt it.
You do realize that the 755 is just as bad as the 700, I've used both. I would get a BB if I were you...

I never had the 700P but I've had a 650 and 3 755Ps. I finally made them give me a Centro. I think you'll still be looking at the 650 wondering if she got the better deal. They (Sprint 755P) really do suck unless ... Maybe Verizon got Palm to fix it?

These varied posts are so curious. I had more problems with my 650, going through 13 refurbs before finally upgrading to the 700P. I still use my original mostly rock solid 700P now for almost two years. I am definitely planning to give the 755 a shot. I'd really like to try the Centro, but my company has a contract with VZW and I don't feel like waiting for another year or more.

So you would waiste the money in ETF's to jump to Sprint(755p) just for a device and jump back to Verizon for device(?Centro) and coverage ...correct me if I am wrong. I can always understand a jump for coverage but I couldn't do it for a device IMHO. My wife wants a BB Curve real bad but we have had good service with Sprint the last five years and we save so much with our plan with a better 3G network than any BB on a GSM network for cheaper. There is rumor the Curve is comming to Sprint next year and she is just going to have to wait or find something else. I also am interested in the Curve but my 700p is getting me by until Linux/Palm, Curve, etc. Not knocking you, just curious. I can always understand anybodies jump to Sprint if the coverage is good for them because Sprint is such a saving compared to Verizon and other cariers. There are alot of members who are gadget hounds that fallow this same trend, but I can understand as I waiste money on my addictive hot rod hobbie.

I just answered my own question. I just called *611 and ordered it - it will be here on Tuesday. It was $449, less $100 for ordering data package, less $50 mail in rebate. So let's call it $300 for new 2 year plan.

I actually came over to Sprint because of the 755P. I never even considered the Centro, which was nothing more than "sneak peaks" and rumors at the time. I had never owned a Treo before and can not believe how much I enjoy an all-in-one device (had a TX and separate cell phone before). Then I made the mistake of playing with the Centro in the store. I love the form factor so much, and the device is wonderful. At the end of the day I'm not an unhappy Sprint customer, but I do have service issues at my summer get away place and it's a big deal. There is no way to get in touch with anyone (or them to get in touch with me) if my cell phone doesn't work there. The connection with Sprint is unreliable there.

For me, at the end of the day, VZW does have better coverage. However, I love the Centro so much, I am sticking with Sprint for right now to see what happens. I do love their data prices, and I love that they don't have restrictions on how I use the data. And they don't do stupid things to their devices to lock them down. I'm very much on the fence with the whole thing, honestly.

I'm really glad to see the 755 released...but so far there haven't been a lot of details...such as what software is on there. And I can't remember now if there was a rumor that GIN was supposed to work? I'm very curious to hear more specs on the VZW 755P.

ETA: With Sprint's recent change to the TOS, I can actually cancel my account with them and will not be charged the ETF. VZW is willing to credit me back the ETF I paid to move to Sprint. So in the end (if I switch right now) I'm actually not getting nailed with any ETFs. I am, however, spending an awful lot of money on hardware. Thank goodness for ebay.

I tried calling *611 to order but the rep said she could not find the Treo 755p in her computer???

Hopefully I can order it online tomorrow... Feels like I've been waiting for this device forever!

Totally understand...and the Centro does have a form factor that gives the Treo more density to its already brick like state.

I waited and waited for this device as did everyone else. However, it price and antiquated design had me switch. You are paying for a phone that has an outdated design. I don't get it. I can see if everyone was excited about the centro if it came to verizon, but not the 755p after all of the delays. I know they were because of verizon's testing, but isn't anyone a bit skeptical that issues that were on the 700p have not been resolved on the 755p?

FWIW, I spoke with a Palm rep @ the Palm Retail Store @ the Grove in LA & he states that their store & all the Verizon stores will officially sell the Verizon Treo 755p tomorrow 12/17/07. It is the blue color.
