I think the white one was just the initial prototype/test Centro. For whatever reason, that color didn't make it into production.

    I like it.
  5. #5
It says Treo on it so it is probably the prototype.

I agree, it is very ugly. Oh, you wrote 'very intriguing' - nevermind, I don't really think so.

Isn't that the same picture we saw eons ago when the Centro/Gandolf rumours were all rampant? Note the "Treo" moniker at the top left ... something Palm changed to "Centro" late in the day, we've been told.

If you read the article, it's talking about Sprint releasing the Centro on the 14th of October. It's in a future tense. It's an old article.

    Sigh. Yup, it sure is.

Sort of funny this is coming up as news...or that someone feels it looks nice. These shots were nearly universally panned as proof that Palm is going to fail with the Centro.

These shots actually came from, as the watermark shows, pdafrance.com--where they had a Centro running on Orange with French.

But yeah, no evidence that there is a "white" version coming out anytime soon.

This is indeed an early version, but it's not unlikely that we may be seeing a white version in the future, after the February pink.

There have been a few more recent sightings:

    That's a Treo 500v I think.

I don't think so. The 500v has buttons that resemble the 600 & 700 series. They're separate from one another. Here's a link to a picture of it. Couldn't post it for some reason.

Nah, it's the Centro. 500v has a 320x240 "rectangle" screen, Centro is "square" 320x320.

It's definitely the Centro. Check out the keyboard and the buttons.

The only weird thing is that there is no "palm" on the center button...

I don't think a white Centro is a good idea. Seems to me it would show every little scratch and look dirty and banged up rather quickly.

where do you find that case? I want one.

how do you out the clock in 24hour mode?
    Red Centro on SERO, ftw

I don't know. The site I got those images from only offers them wholesale in bulk orders, I believe. Have you tried looking through eBay?

Also, Sue, I have to disagree. More options can never be a bad thing. Also, the white will probably be less likely to show the dust that gets under many cases.

I think Broose is probably right. White was used for the prototypes. And the reason the case maker is showing a white Centro is because that is what he was given by Palm to make his case with. Palm "seeds" the accessory vendors under NDA.

That may be. I can understand initial designs, but it seems odd to actually go into manufacturing cases from prototypes alone. (And if they had current models, why wouldn't they show those instead?) Also, it's interesting that these products and photos were posted on that site in November, well after the Centro's release.

I do wonder why the white was abandoned after that's what they were prototyping with, though. The photo in the first post makes it look horrible, but that's mostly due to the lighting, I'm sure. (The BlackBerry doesn't look so hot there either.) The shots in the case look pretty nice, though.
