I notice my new Centro . . . while asleep . . . will at random just reset. I see the Palm logo fire up . . . and the unit goes through a soft reset. It has done this twice that I noticed . . . not sure if it has done it when I'm not around.

Is this business as usual . . . or do you think I have a problem unit? I am still within my 30 day trial period on this new phone.

    Your thoughts and experience please.

Oh . . . I am not running any third party software . . . just Versamail with EAS.

    Problem unit.

Better yet: what does typing in ##377# in the dialpad display?

It says "No System Errors recorded in log" . . . weird.

I believe that means no app logged as the culprit, and if you have no 3rd party apps installed causing the issue, then you probably have a bad unit. I use Versamail with EAS with no problems. I've had zero resets and I've had mine over a week now. My 700p would reset at least a few times a week with the same programs installed.

My Centro does this, too! Just randomly restarts with no provocation.

I think I found the problem . . . whenever I'm done syncing my phone with Palms Desktop software, the hotsync process seems to delete my Versamail EAS email password. The software does not sync contacts, calendar or email . . . but everything else.

So when my phone attempts to check my mail . . . sometimes it will do a reset. Once I put in the password for my email account again, the Centro is back to rock solid stable.

I have another post to see if others have experienced the hotsync process deleting the Versamail EAS email password.

I believe the Soft resets are the result of Palm OS v 5.4.9 doing some house keeping of the DB Cache.

I first noticed this back in June '07 when the Sprint 700p MR was released. If the DB Cache and the Max Chunk get to low, the device will clean house with a soft reset. This will prevent crashes when loading an app with not enough Cache available.

When these soft resets occured, Reset Doctor always said there was no crash, but a user induced reset.

The Centro and the MR'd 700p use the same Palm OS version 5.4.9

I wouldn't worry about the self induced soft resets.

    Do you have DateBK6 installed?

And do you do OTA EAS sync?

It is causing my Centro to reboot on occasion.

I've gotten about ten spontaneous resets since I started using it a couple weeks ago. I don't mind them. I mind the ones that reset when I'm in the middle of doing something. If it's doing some housekeeping, it's all good.

Also if you do dial ##377# on the phone dialer screen to access the log of what caused the last system crash make sure to double-check the date and time because it seemed to have not logged a few of my resets.

that means your sprint mobile email application is having a problem.

I have been getting random restarts while running Mundo IM version 4.1. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that this version may be in a beta (ita not on site, was emailed to me by tech support. Any one else running mundo having these probs? I would hate to have to not use it, not a big fan of the Sprint IM.

Out of the blue HandBase is resetting my Centro when I add a record.

    ##377# yeilds:

"A crash occurred on 12/12/07 at 5:40pm while running "Handbase 3":

    StringMgr.C, Line:68, NULL string passed

I've tried re-installing the data files, program file. Didn't help. I've tried uninstalling Sprint Mobile Email just to be sure that wasn't conflicting. No help.

I really rely on my databases. Should I switch to another database program even though Handbase has served me well since my Palm IIIe?!?

    I think b/c it's beta and...it's a memory hog.

Seriously, Mundu is quite bloated for running in the background, especially if you have an email app doing the same. All of those pretty graphics come at a cost I think.
