great find!! I'm not an early adopter (note my treo model!) so I'll wait a year until prices drop and the wheat and chaff have been defined, but this is sure good news versus that previous report from a few months back of 16gb cards in the multi-thousand dollar range!!

    cheers

Begs the question, will it work (acceptably) well with the 700p or any other Treo device? I've read the Patriot 8GB SDHC has gotten kind reviews somewhere here regarding read/write speeds. Would love to hear from someone who has tried this 16 GB SDHC.

Im sure it will be the same as the 8GB's. It will show 4GB's at a time.

That's fine with me that it shows up as 4GB. As long as I can get to the 16GB without any special actions than I want one!

On the one hand Im glad Palm figured out how to install a Fat32 driver but damn...

On the other hand couldnt they have been broadsighted enough to have it read the whole card at one time?

This 4GB limit is a joke.

So what does 'it only reads 4GB at a time' mean? Can you load up an 8GB card with movies and TV shows and music and actually get to it all? It seems worthless to me that you can only access 4GB.

    Please explain...

Also, do you always want to get a Class 6 card despite its payload?

    Thanks!!

The card info app only recognizes it as having 4gb of space, but the phone will read all 8gb. Basically, the phone doesn't realize how big the card really is but will use the full capacity of the card anyway.

Actually all the applications that use the card can see the whole card it is only the card info application that can't. According to my own experiences.

I don't have money for this. Want the space. Don't have me money. Must restrain myself.

    Thanks for the explanation.

Can you impart anything on the use of Class 6 cards? (or any other Class for that matter?) I recall seeing it here someplace before but I really don't have the time to laboriously search for it.

    Thanks!!

I've been using 2 8GB SDHC Transcend Class 2 cards for several months and haven't had any problems, they work equally well on my Treo. I have noticed that sometimes one of the cards is slower than the other on my laptops but I haven't figured out why, yet.

I'm mistaken they aren't Transcend they are Adata cards.

The 8GB Transcend class 6 SDHC is excellent. I just got one and am using it now. Fastest card I've owned, including all the 256, 512 and 1GB cards. Prior to now, I always had thought higher capacity meant slower access. Transcend has proven me wrong.

The reason that PalmOS says that only 4GB is available is likely just a 32-bit math error in the card info app.

So I got my new Transcend card today but I have a question for you experts out there:

Do I have to reformat it or is that a process of the past that was pre-MR?

    Thanks!!
