Lately i realised my SD card in the treo680 does not exist and i have to do a complete restore to bring it back again. Does anyone have this problem? Does anyone know of a software that's causing this problem?

My card works and then it isn't seen by any programs. But the program card info that came with the 680 shows it with no problem. I have to play with taking the card out and resetting it to have the come back. Is this the problem that you have? If so what type of SD card do you have? Do you have a back up utility to the card to?

It's a fairly common fault. I have this on mine. Try using CardKeeper to re-mount the card. It's not ideal but it does the trick.

It isn't because the card ejects out. It is something to do with the card or some programs. All CardKeeper does is beep when the card is removed. The 680 does this already.

no it doesnt just beep when it is ejected. Have you tried the app? There is a re-mount option.

my guess is its a sofware problem because when i do a hard reset i get the SD card back again.

This morning i downloaded the latest powerhero (beta) and noticed i lost the SD card again......hmmmm........

I suggest that you try Cardkeeper and select the "attempt to remount card" option. Look at this poor guy's thread; he did extensive analysis of his software constellation, removing and installing this and that...and in the end, Cardkeeper turned out to be the solution.

A combination of Zlauncher, MobileWrite, CJKOS, Butler, and VolumeCare, apps that register for Hede, appeared to render the SD card invisible for my 680 at reset and really panicked me a while ago. I thought it might be a cache problem and installed UnCache (http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=142765). I am happy to say that it has cured this problem for me!

I reloaded powerhero and it doesn't seem to cause the SD card to dissappear so i think we can rule it out as the cause.

I reloaded reset.prc obtained from hobbyistsoftware.com and my SD card was no longer available again. I deleted it. and did a warm reset and my SD card was available. So i'm blaming reset.prc for this problem...

I previously had reset.prc but it got lost when i did a couple of restore from resco backup to bring back the treo to the state when it would register the SD Card. I had a few days ago loaded reset.prc and i think my problems started from then.

Yeah, this has happened to me twice! I will attest that you're not going crazy as I've been there. Worst yet, the first time it happened to me I shoved my SD card into one of those Dazzler (sp?) media readers that were pretty much the first cheap consumer media reader and the reader mangled the file system in my 2 gig SD card. I was so pissed. I had a backup of the card but it was three months old. Before I hard reset I used backup buddy and did full backup over hotsync to keep the "evidence" of what happened.

After the hard reset I restored over hotsync little by little, when I copied over the Saved Preferences the sd card disappeared again...I copied the one from my SD card backup and the sd card came back...

I should mention since that first traumatic time I've had the card disappear a few times but it came back on reboot, so there are two phenomenons at play here. Each time it was after some type of nasty crash in which my Treo must not have restarted properly.

I hope you have a backup of your Saved Preferences, copy that over into your Treo and let me know how it goes.

I forgot to mention, I do not recall making any changes to the settings of any of my utilities and the only new programs I had installed were a couple of games. I'm in IT so I know there's always a logical explanation, but without looking at the Saved Preferences file to see what settings are different it will be a mystery...

It looks like reset.prc (from hobbyistsoftware.com) is not to be blamed. While playing around with Splashtravel, i got a reset and when i came back i had lost the SD Card again. Reset.prc was not installed in the phone. so i'm not sure what to do now. what if i'm on the road and there is some critical information or files that i need to retrieve from the SD Card - that can be not a good situation.

My Sprint Treo 700P recently lost the card reader, resulting in its replacement. Well, I did a restore and life was good. After the restore/reset, it no longer recognized the card. Tried a card from my 650 and it worked, just not the 700P card. Copied the card to the laptop and reformatted it, copied back to the card and tried it again. Nothing. It would not do a thing. I then did a format on the 650 and put the card in the 700P and it recognized the card. I then moved things around and restored the device. After the restore/reset, nothing again - the card not recognized.

Well, I reformatted the card and put everything back on manually, though I did cheat and copy a few things over to make it a bit faster. Long story short, after getting the device running again, it was time for the midnight backup - after that was done, the device got the endless loop disease. The next day after playing, I discovered that four backups were done messed up. Deleted all of the old backups, redid the device and card, and it is now running.

Turns out my problem was both a bad card reader in the Treo 700p, messed application indexes, and some application (unknown which one) that made the card unreadable.

I also agree on a card monitoring application. I have Cradle Care installed again.

    Ben

I want to thank Bill Gamble for recommending CardKeeper. I installed it as a desparate measure and sure enough I got back my SD Card after installing CardKeeper. So far it has held up over the weekend without my SD Card going missing. Thank-you for the tip.

Actually, Hicks was the first to recommend it, in post #3.

I don't understand exactly what the topic is here. Occasionally my 680 doesn't seem to know the card is there. I suppose that is what you are all talking about, but the solution, at least for me, seems far simpler than what has been made of it: just click the card twice, so it disengages and engages, and all is right with the world. That simple problem cannot possibly what you are discussing here, is it?

I've never experienced either situation, but I think the OP's problem is closer to this than your scenario.

That does not fix this specific problem.
