Whether Bluetooth or cable, on initiating HotSync this 755p immediately rebooted. No other symptoms. Reset Doctor said:
    ------------------------------------
    -System Crash-
    Date - time

    While running MMConduit-asc6

    "String Mgr.c.Line:68,
    NULL string passed"
    ------------------------------------

I did a hard reset and re-installed everything using a backup utility. The problem persisted.

I then re-installed the Palm Desktop using the CDROM that came with the 755p (includes HotSync Manager 7.01. When I tried to hotsync, the handheld did NOT crash but the hotsync stopped with an alert saying that there were multiple applications trying to use the same data. I looked at HotSync Manager Applications and saw CONTACTS and ADDRESS BOOK, MEMOS and MEMO PAD, etc. It was a mental coin toss because I thought whatever I did would be reversible. I selected one DO NOTHING wherever there appeared to be a conflict, and achieved a hotsync.

HOWEVER - the Memos are gone, Contacts are gone... In HotSync Manager Applications, those choices are no longer available.

So, I did another restore from a backup, and tried to hotsync using that. Crash!

I now see an alert window on the PC saying MWCConduit2.0.dll is missing... Reinstalling the software did not fix that.

    Now what - ????

    I desperately need a guru!

"MMConduit-asc6" is VersaMail. Did you try turning off the Versamail?

Actually, using a file manager like, FileZ, to delete all the files whose creatore id begins with "asc" would have probably taken care of it.

As to MWCConduit2.0.dll...did you install some kind of medical software? I see a reference, via Google, to a "Medical Wizard Install" file.

Right click on the Hotsync Manager icon in your desktop program tray and choose "Custom"...what conduits do you see?

    I WILL, IMMEDIATELY.

    THAT'LL BE #2.

NO MEDICAL SOFTWARE, THOUGH I COULD USE A TRANQ ABOUT NOW.

With HotSync Manager 7.0.1 I could not find "Custom". In "Applications", I see:

*Quick Install - VersaMail - Calendar (was SCHEDULE) - *Contacts (was ADDRESS BOOK) - *Tasks (was TO-DO) - *Memos (was MEMO PAD) - Addit - CallRec - Media - Package Installer - Install - Install Service Templates - Install To Card - Backup.

Of these, a * means it's turned OFF at this time (and the problem persists).

Turning off the Versamail conduit fixed the problem. Perhaps I don't use that conduit, since all email to/from the 755p is to a unique gmail address.

Also, there are NO *asc* files on the device.

    THANKS !!!!

Why not use that "backup utility" you mentioned earlier?

Ultimately, that's what I did. Now, this unit is without email and without the ability to go online. I have no clue why, and there's no time at the moment to sort it out. At least the rest of the palmbasic stuff works - and thanks!

Hate Vesramail w a passion. Went with RoadSync for my email and do a manual hotsync for everything else. Works perfect!

Thanks. I just checked RoadSync and find that it requires Outlook - which I have successfully avoided.

Is there anything else that might work? Right now, this 755p will not go online and I have no idea why.

All purely-Palm functions are now ok (thanks!) - including HotSync whether via cable or BT. However:

When I try to use the browser OR email, nothing happens. No dialog box or alerts - just nothing. BTW, this is a Sprint phone with Power Vision, and it did work.

I did a complete wipe, and both work. Evidently, some app is interfering, and the only way to find out is by binary installation. That is, install half the apps and test, then half again, etc. etc. Or is there some better way?

    ?

    Basically, your binary installation . . . . . .

Then again, Bill makes an excellent suggestion below. . . ..

Go to the Treo's Preferences and tap on Network. What's shown next to Service? If you tap Connect, does it? Tap the Service dropdown, select the proper network service and try connecting again.
