okay. Long and short of it. I just want an app that will allow me to apply different MP3 ringtones to different contacts BUT I also want to be able to apply different ringers for different people sending SMS as well.... Currently I have Minitones but it doesn't allow me to enable specific tones for SMS. I have searched and there are TOO many to choose from. Ringo, Ringo Pro, Lightwav, RingCare. Jeez. makes me dizzy. I tried a trial of LightWav but it seemed like a lot of bells and whistles and I couldn't figure out how to assign specific text message alerts. I got frustrated and deleted it. So I want opinions. I want something that is user friendly, allows me to specify SMS alerts, uses MP3s and is stable on the 755. So... talk to me

I use CallBlock, myself: simple, stable and reasonably priced.

so far Im REALLY diggin mRing.....

I like the features, like the full screen pictureID and all....bit of a delay upon an incoming call(white screen for about 2 seconds) but other than that, not a bad program.

I installed LightWav again...I read about it and it has AWESOME features....if you can get them to work....it seemed really buggy to me...like when assigning pics to incoming callers, the original Treo caller id flashes for about 4-5 seconds and then the LightWav screen....also...if i wanted to make changes or add filters I would have to make the changes and then do a soft reset in order for said changes to take effect... I dont know but for 30.00 I dont think these should be issues. Although, if it worked properly for me, LightWav would have been my choice, hands down.

So, now Im gonna give mRing a 7 day run...see how it goes... so far all is well and for 20.00 its not a bad purchase...

any mRing enthusiasts out there? anything I should know prior to purchasing the app?

Oh and i liked Callblock but I decided I wanted full screen picture ID

Lightwav is probably the best for your money. You can do a lot with it. Its a ringtone manager, full screen caller ID, you can use full mp3s and select which part of the song you want a ringtone to start. That way you can use your pre-existing mp3 library as ringtones with out croping them. If you want more info pm me.

I like LightWav but as I said in my prior post, the trial was buggy on my 755. I REALLY REALLY like the features and I would like to keep it but there was so many issues trying to get it working correctly on my phone

I dont get it because a lot of people rave about the app.... It just didnt work right for me

any suggestions on how to get it running smoothly? If so, I will buy it in a second...

i have a treo 755 with sprint and have no trble with LW

have u tried the newest version?

i had issues with mring, couldnt switch calls with call waiting, lol

i like LW features, volume boosting, shows small thumbnail picture of person u are calling.. can preview ringers before u select them.. announce call.. i have that for callers that i dont have filters setup for....disconnect sound

i think it gives u allot more then mring and it should work fine on your treo 755

    version 2.5 build 74

Yep, that was the version I tried....

    didnt work correctly

If anyone wants to help a tech-illiterate gal such as myself, shoot me a PM, I would be forever in your debt.

Let me ask you this, once installed and the picture caller ID is set, are you supposed to see the regular Treo callerID for a few seconds and THEN it goes to LightWav ID? Is that normal behavior for the app?

Stay away from Lightwav, no matter what built...it's the worst. mRing was the best at one point, file just to large & app runs a bit slow. Ringo, Ringo Pro sucks, RingCare sadly is still buggy. I finally stayed & very happy with minnitones, make my own ringtones & set them to who ever contact I want.

have minitones and if it was capable of assigning individual SMS tones it would be great.... but it falls short there and I also like the full picture ID display....

so you think they all suck? well, that's just swell.... this decision shouldn't be so difficult

YES, that behavior is normal ...not a bug, if u want to get rid of that, remove the pics u have in the default phone book for people

what other issues are u having?

when I set SMS tones for people the don't always work..... I hope I'm doing that correctly. its just create a filter then the drag down menu for SMS, right? anyway, when I set them, they don't always work....

also.. I have to soft reset if I want changes I make in LightWav to take effect... that's very odd...

that sms thing is a known bug, but he released a fix for that

phone wasnt registerig corretly on resets and your sms and voicemail alerts would not work

also check off turn on phone after reset in lightwav preferences, that helps as well
i never have that issue anymore but did in the past

i will look for that file on my phone that registers LW

if it works one time, then u know that u are doing it right, if it works sometimes, then u need the file below

    found application , 4kb

this isnt LW program just the trigger that fixes the sms and voicemail alerts issue

another option i just remembered that he added, escalating ringtone !

There is a new bug-fix build almost every day, which is why I abandoned all of the Toysoft software. IMHO, he should stick to developing one application well, instead of several buggy ones. It seems to be a situation where the developer spews quantity, not quality, or he releases them too soon, and expects paid users to do the beta testing.

And his kids are going to hate him some day... :-)
