Can anyone recommend a way to change the dialpad? It was easy with the 650, but I want to be careful before I mess with my new tool.

skinner is the program to skin your dialpad

I use DialByPhoto. its so much more than a skinner but provides excellent graphics while doing it all.

I used to skin my device with one of those (I think it was the freeware version of Skinner that only worked through the 650).

I got Takephone and configured it the way I like it - the added benefits of Takephone run circles around Skinner.
Treo 755s in good condition available on ebay for $50-$75. No need to pay for insurance or buy a Pre.

I would recommend Skinner. Dial By Photo looks the best, but suffers from bad lag. Takephone has less lag, but doesn't look as good. Skinner looks good, and has no lag.

I would also say that Takephone is the way to go. I have it installed and love it. Plus you get to dial by photo on the main Takephone screen plus it makes it really easy to search contacts and such.

I tried Skinner. Installed it and it told me the trial was up. Enh?

    I'll try TakePhone next.

    Thanks all.

Ever since the Treo 600 I've turned the dialpad off and hidden the quick keys.

On the 755p it's set so typing a letter starts a contacts search. Most hit in two or three keystrokes.

Typing a number goes into dial by number mode.

With this system "re-skinning" is as easy as changing my wallpaper.

I tried that. typing didn't bring anything up. is there a setting I should check?

Edit: Figured it out! Neat. Thanks.

I should also mention that my "Launcher" is minimalist too.

No software. Just a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for my favorite apps.

Again, everything starts from wallpaper screen. Just hold the key of the app I want. S for slodeshow, K for Kalk, G for GNU Key Ring, etc.

Dosen' t matter if I'm making a call or launching an application. They're all a key or two away.

Using real buttons and keys provides the best tactile feedback.

The keyboard is my favorite feature and I make heavy use of it. :-)
