My 700p all of a sudden started doing predictive text on certain words. I have no predictive text software and I have no idea why or how to stop this. An example would be I was trying to type "sec", as in the college football conference in a text to my friend but every time I would type "sec" and hit the space bar it would make it "second". There is no way to stop this. It also has done this recently with a few other words and I have no idea why. Is there a way to shut this off as it's annoying. The reason I have a qwerty is that I don't want predictive text (T9).

    Thanks

This is strange. I typed "sec" and got "second" as well.
I have a predictive text app installed but "second" wasn't hightlighted in my choices when I hit the space bar.

I just did a hard reset because of another issue so I have no software installed. When I type "sec" and hit the space bar, second appears. Palm must have some type of predictive text installed. Hopefully someone knows how to turn it on and off. It would be nice to know. I did find however that if you type SEC in captial letters palm does not turn it into second.

That's crazy, I never realized that. You can actually backspace through the inputted text and then start typing again and it is fine but it is a pain.

It also works with words like "can't" & "don't) by putting in the (') symbol for after you type the word. Cool!
"and if that wasn't funny, there were lots of things that weren't even funnier..."

It was months before I realized that -- I love it!

On my 680, that stuff is kept in a ROM file named, "HsExtensions2.0_enUS.prc". You can make a copy of the corresponding file in the 700p and edit it to change this behavior; putting that copy into RAM will override the ROM file.

My 680's file seems to keep that information in the "tSTL #25004" resource.

Does anyone have a list or know what words this works with? It always fixes contractions with the apostrophe (don't, can't, won't, etc). I know 's-e-c-space' gives 'second' but 'm-i-n-space' does NOT give 'minute'. WTF? A comprehensive list would be nice.

Here's the list from my 680 (see my post above about the file that contains the list). It looks like 'mns' gives 'minutes':

Very good, thanks. Most of them I knew about, but I didn't know about and especially appreciate the "shel" to "she'll" and the "hel" to "he'll". That will save a few pushes....
