Treonauts says the only device fitting that outline is the Centro.

So will a PalmOS Centro come to Europe first, or will it be the WM standard version launching first?

WM Smartphone. The leaked picture of the WM smartphone version was on Vodaphone, so we know about that GSM version.

The WM version, with its landscape screen, seems to have a more manageable keyboard.

Indeed. It also looks fairly generic, as far as WM smartphones. But two things:

    (1) Like the Centro POS prototype, I'm interested to see if this has changed from the prototype to final. You'd think they would go with the same black/silver color scheme

    (2) I'm really curious to see how Palm tweaked the Smartphone OS. It seems most WM smartphones are fairly sluggish (at least the Q was) so I would think, like the WM pro version, Palm optimized the OS for speed and memory. That, along with any additional plugins or modifications, could make this a nice device to use

Plus of course memory and hardware specs are still not known. Something like this I would pick up just for traveling overseas since I'm stuck with CDMA in the States.

It would be no more than the industry standard, and knowing Palm it could be less

Probably: this is still the low-end device for them I believe. Though as far as CPU and memory, Palm can get away with it since the OS is optimized more.

The fact the WM Treos run a 300/312mhz processor is testament to this--it's still as fast as my old 6700 (416mhz) with tweaked WM6 on it. Then there's that RAM issue which Palm seems to be able to better handle than HTC, which I'm really curious as to why HTC can't better maximize.

I think its because HTC just churns them out instead of spending much development time with the software. HTC in essence is a hardware company, whereas Palm likes to boast of being a software one.

If they've been reading the reaction to the leaked photo's and the later Sprint promo picture then they would be pretty stupid not to use the black/silver colour. Of course it really depends on what Vodafone ask for, as it seems pretty certain that they're the carrier it will be launched on.

I REALLY hope its not a Windows Mobile Palm! I want some fresh Palm OS meat! I love the POS and hate WM. POS is better for teens and average day-to-day smartphone users. WM is slow, complicated, and annoying.

My speculation is Centro with 2 color in both Windows Mobile and Palm OS.

It all depends on who you ask and how they like to use their devices. You can't say that OS A is better for group Y, especially just because you think OS B has characteristics N,P,T. Excuse my algebra.

I think PalmOS can be slow and annoying, and I'm a teenager, so therefore your theory is wrong. Of course, I'm more of a power user (but not a full power user), and my girlfriend who only got her Treo (because she was jealous of mine of course) for calendar and games would probably think otherwise. She's also a teenager just in case you were wondering I personally would rather have the functionality of WM right now because I'm tired of my 650 just being so old and buggy. I could get a 700p/755p, but then it'd probably be new and buggy.

And I don't think there can be such a thing as fresh PalmOS meat. The PalmOS cow was butchered a long time ago and Palm's just been serving it with different spices. Sorry for the lame analogy. Basically, unless Palm makes a new OS or heavily modifies PalmOS, there's no reason to come out with another PalmOS 5 device because it'd be just like the other devices before it, except with one or two slightly different features.

The blurry pic (Malatesta posted it above) certainly seems to show a Vodafone device with WM. Vodafone said some time ago that they were standardising on three OSs: WM, Symbian, Linux. Palm OS (5) was excluded and it seems pretty unlikely that they've had a change of heart. Doesn't mean there won't be a POS device on another carrier or unlocked of course.

    Palm UK are currently offering £80 mail-in rebate on a 750, £50 on a 680:
