Good afternoon, I am new to the forum and want to first off thank you all for what looks like a great resource.

I am an IT professional, run my own small computer company, and I am having an issue with a client Treo and his email environment. a search of the forum didn't find me what i was looking for so i thought id post the issue and see what all you good people could come up with:

Outlook 2003 email client on a NEW DESKTOP that i built for him. this small office has an Exchange 2003 back end email environment on Small Business Server 2003.

he also has a POP account mapped for some outside email to be forwarded and delivered in his inbox on his desktop.

when he does a send/receive on his desktop and then either deletes some email out of his inbox or makes changes, he goes to sync the Treo and the inbox on the treo is completely deleted.

not just the email he took off his desktop inbox but EVERYTHING in the inbox of the treo.

i am at a complete loss. i thought there was maybe an option in his outlook email client on his desktop that would stop it from doing this, but im more and more thinking thats not the case.

he is using Microsoft Active Sync to sync up, and again, besides putting a new desktop on his workplace, i didnt touch anything on the server or the exchange account.

(this office setup is something im inheriting and im still learning what the last tech had done in the small network setup)

any suggestions would really be appreciated. im banging my head on the wall with this one.

    thanks in advance

    1. Launch Email (or Versamail) on the Treo

    2. Press the menu button

3 Select Options, and then select Preferences.

    4 Select Incoming.

Change the dropdown for "Mail from last" to some greater time period.
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

thank you very much for getting back to me on this.

maybe a silly question, the sync software had to be setup on his new computer, but would that change settings on the treo?
my point being, if it was working fine before the replacement of the desktop that it is connected to, how would the treo lose its 'settings' and need to have something like this set (for the first time?) again?

thank you again for your time..

Well, I suppose that depends....how long ago was it that you saw it "working fine"?

I made the swap out of his new desktop 15 days ago. he resync'd while i was there and we watched everything come over fine. i called it ok and left.

he calls me a week later and says that since i was there it hasnt been working fine. so my only guess is, (and i wish he would have called me the MINUTE it wasnt working) that later on, he found this problem and then a week later we finally talked about it.

i can only see that it hasnt been working since we put the new desktop on this workplace. there have been no hard resets of the treo, and again, besides changing out the desktop and having to reinstall productivity software (ie, Office ((outlook)), microsoft sync software, ect) that has been all that has happened.

so i have to look at what was new.

    1.) new desktop (hardware)
2.) new install and configuration of client email software on new machine
3.) new install of sync software

i didnt touch his domain login, its properties, nor the properties of how exchange is dealing with his account.

only other suggestion i have been given is the treo is not syncing with exchange as its primary email??

there is an exchange account and a POP account (that is forwarding to exchange) but i have them both setup to 'deliver' on his outlook client on his desktop.

could it be something like i need to specify what account hes syncing with?

sorry for being so rusty. i havnt been playing around with exchange for a few years, but when i was i was quite familiar with it. but Active sync and things like that that are built into more current versions of exchange, im just not as familiar with.

i hope this was more help, and again, sir, thank you for your responses and your time on this.

How long has he been syncing mail to his Treo via ActiveSync? Is the missing mail still on the server?

I think the initial setting in the Versamail app on the Treo is "Mail from last 3 days". It could be that it took him a week to see that email he was used to seeing on the Treo was no longer there - but was still in Outlook.
