So far, I'm very pleased with my 680. This is my first Treo, and it's a pleasant change from my former WM5 device (Axim x51v). I'm sure I'll have several more questions in the future, but here are a few to start:

    1) After I've saved an excel document, when I return to it, all of my row and column dimensions have returned to the default. This is annoying to someone with OCD, such as myself.

2)Is there no option to delete a contact from the main contact listing screen? In the manual, it appears to discuss clicking the option button, going to record and voila. However, the only way I've found (aside from using Palm Desktop) is to edit the contact, go to details, then delete. Obviously, way too many steps.

3)When you go to Documents to Go and choose to create a new document, is there a difference between selecting "Word to Go" verus "MS Word"? The same applies to Excel. They seem to be identical once opened.

4)Is there anyway to remove any of the Cingular crap? I'm speaking mostly of the software aspects; however, any tips on removing the external logo?

5)Is there a native way to check the actual percentage of battery remaining, or do I need a plugin/app for that?

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure many others will come up. Thanks in advance for any help!

    I'll take the easy questions

    3) "Word to Go" files cannot be opened by Microsoft Word directly. They need to be "translated" by the Docs to Go Conduit before Microsoft Word will open it. "MS Word" files are native .doc (note not office 2007) files that can be opened by Microsoft Word directly.

    5) tap on the battery icon in the upper right hand corner

It's actually something in-between: open the contact, then choose menu>Record/Delete_Contact (menu-D).

    Thanks for the quick replies.

So, is there any reason/advantage to using Word to Go instead of MS Word?

About the delete contact thing: that's what I was saying. What you suggested is not under the "record" options. It's just not there. It has new contact, open contact, duplicate contact, export to SIM, import from SIM, send contact, beam contact, beam category, send category, and beam business card. the menu+D doesn't work either.

In the contacts screen-open contact-edit-details-delete. it's that simple.

Simple in that I know how and can do it (as I've already stated), but... it should be even easier, as in quickly from the list of all contacts without having to go into each one individually. I'm pretty sure (as others have already suggested) this is possible. However, that option isn't showing up.

I was just thinking about this last night - I figured that there *MUST* be a faster way to delete contacts. I don't have the option to delete them directly from the Record menu, either.

You do have to be in the contact record (as Bill Gamble stated) not the list view for the menu-d option to appear.

    Thank you for the insight.

Okay, I see now. You should be able to from the list. If Palm is concerned about accidental deletion, they should have a confirmatory yes or no screen after clicking delete. Oh well. Thanks for clearing this up.

Anyone have an answer on the Excel column/row question?

Hi. Just received my Treo 680 today. I've been lurking for a while getting great advice, and now have what I think is the same question about deleting a contact.

I copied my contacts from my last phone to my sim card and then put the sim card in my Treo. I synced w/ my laptop, and now have duplicate contacts. I am trying to delete the duplicates by scrolling to the number, clicking on menu and then clicking open to follow the above directions. When I press open, though, I get a "beep" and nothing happens.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I learn to use my new Treo, but this has me frustrated for the moment. Any advice?

    Thanks

Ok....I figured that one out. I guess those numbers that I can't edit are on my sim card, so I either have to delete them from my sim, or live w/ the double entry. Is that right?

Go to contacts App, go to preferences and remove tick from Show SIM records.

You will now only see what's stored on the Treo
