    Microsoft and Apple sell updates to their desktop OSes. Many times Palm makes enhancements in their newer devices that could easily be backported to older devices.

    Currently there is no financial incentive for Palm to create OS updates. Might there be a market for paid updates?
    HP200LX -> Palm Pilot -> Palm III -> Sony PEG-300 -> Sony PEG-N710C -> Treo 650 -> Treo 700p -> Treo 755p -> (iPhone or Treo 800L or something unexpected)??

    Before Palm should consider getting paid for adding newer buggier software to older devices, they should fix bugs in their current devices in a more timely manner, which doesn't introduce more bugs.

    I think in the current state, if Palm was paid for software updates, they would dominate the market. Each time a user paid for a software update (to fix a bugged older version) they would get new bugs in the new OS version. Creating a never-ending cycle of paid updates to Palm.
