    Hello all,

I have been searching for the past few days for an app that will do one simple thing:

Lock my phone and pda portion of my Treo 755p so that a password is required to access the entire PDA device.

I want it to be like a screensaver on a computer: Set a password and when I want to access my phone/pda/apps, I must enter the password in order to access that stuff.

I dont care about protecting sensitive data/files (since I dont have any!!!) or deleting all the data if it gets stolen. I just want my phone/pda to be password protected.

The built in Palm app only prevents someone from making a phone call. I want to lock the entire PDA.

Am I missing the obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    rjmoose

The builtin Security app does what you are asking. You can have it lock everytime you turn it off, after a preset delay (like after 30 mins) or after a certain time as gone by (say at midnight).

When it is locked, it only allows emergency access to phone so you call 911.

Can you tell me where that app/function is, because I have looked everywhere. I was hoping I was missing the obvious.

I would appreciate it if you pointed me in the right direction.

Are you looking under the application - Security? It seems pretty self-explainatory.

Don't know why. I thought that was a basic application in all palms. I have Verizon and it is in mine.

Okay, since I was bored, I looked in the Palm manual for the Sprint 755. According to the manual, it has the Security application. Pages 275-277 of the manual talk about it.

    Link for the manual:

Thanks man, but I do not have a "Security" icon. Can someone with a 755p confirm that they have (or do not have) a "Security" icon/application?

    Thanks for your help.....weird

I have a 755p and the security icon is there. Some security apps, like Warden, hide the built in security app when they are installed. If you have tried Warden at some point, be sure you use their uninstaller (Menu -- Uninstall) or you will be left without Warden AND the built in security app! You can always get it back by reinstalling Warden and then using their uninstaller.

I had the same issue when I tried Warden. I had to reinstall and uninstall it from within Warden to see the security app again.

I like the way Warden handles the screen when locked.

Warden worked to lock the device but there were one side effect. Chatteremail kept trying to login over and over after installing it.

I tried to remote lock it and it never locked.

The 755p is not on the list of working devices yet. I hope they get it working with the 755p soon.

While we are on the subject of the security app, It behaves in a way that seems odd.

If I specify that the device locks after 5 minutes, it does not lock 5 minutes after the device is turned off, but if I browse the web or work on the device for more than 5 minutes, it will lock immediately.

The words say "if inactive for more than", but the device can be active for more than 5 minutes and be inactive for no time and immediately lock when the device is turn off.

Well, I am learning all kinds of things about security software.

With the built in Palm Security Software, I have "Auto Lock Device:" set to "After 1 Hour", but it does not lock my phone at all after 1 hour of complete inactivity. Anyone else with a 755p able to get this feature to work?

    Thanks in advance.

    godschoice,

Warden security latest version(2.0.1063) already supports Palm 755p and we have many users using it without any issues. You may want to get a hold of it here: www.lockmytreo.com/download.asp

I have it set for 'after 1 hour.' I have versamail get mail per hour (7am to 11pm) so I expect my treo not to lock during the day. At night when no email polling occurs, it locks as it should after 1 hour of inactivity. Maybe you have an app performing in the background defeating the one hour of inactivity?
