I've had my Treo 680 for about 6 months. I use Gmail and was having no problem s downloading mail every hours to my device...until about 2 months ago. I stopped receiving and thought I was maxed on space. Deleted everything I could and then it began downloading the same messages that I had already deleted from my device and the server. A few weeks ago when the iPhone released I walked into the ATT store and showed them my Treo and the 480 or so messages that keep trying to download and they could not help saying it was a server issue. I could not do a mass delete as my device just got hot and after a few hours of getting no where I began the process of deleting them one by one. I then Sync'd up and thought this would be the fix per data support...yeah right. In no time messages began to down load just once a day and currently they are from June. AHHHHHHHHHH. I'm not deleting my emails on my Gmail acct...that shouldn't be necessary. I do not use Versamail nor do I need it. So short of a hard reset any suggestions? God forbid I push the "GET" button because it's up to over 500 messages...and adding. Trust me I have thousands of messages in my Gmail acct so this cannot be the problem...Help...

Chatteremail is a very good email client for Palms

Or you could look at the GMail java client that they offer.

Personally I forward all my GMail to a fastmail IMAP account and use Chatteremail for collecting it as it supports push so hits my device almost same time as my GMail account receives it.

Thank you I will take a look...my BF is not very versed (but learning) with the Palms...he's an IT specialist but with the emphasis in Windows environment. So do the hard reset and then this client? I will re visit the GMail java client as I used it on my 3125 (Star Trek) phone...and I had no problems in the Windows environment then. Hummm but could be apples and oranges here. My first Palm...I'm learning too.

No need for hard reset, make sure u have the Palm JVM (do a search on theseforums - I'm on 680 so limited access).

Install that, then download the GMail java client.

Only do a hard reset if u confident u have a good backup and I do not mean hotsync.

If you log into your GMail account via the web browser, adn u see messages in your inbox, then they will be downloaded to your Treo.

If you have the setting on your Treo to download the complete message, but the max size is less than the size of the emails you have, then they will be downloaded to your Treo.

I'd recommend just logging in via a web browser and archiving your emails. After that you should not have that issue.

*IMO, offering to fix a person's problem by first suggesting new software isn't always the best thing to do. In this case, its mostly likely a lot simpler and cheaper solution to diagnose the issue rather than tossing $$$ at it to get a solution. That tends to happen a lot on these kinds of boards...

    Hi there,

I never have more than 20 or so messages in my in box at any one time as I don't like looking at them...I archive them all unless I have to address one and it is there to remind me to do so. But the server at Cingular is saying I currently have 520+ messages and they are the same ones I deleted a few weeks ago...I'll try the app and then see if this helps. My pref are set to only load the subject and not the entire email so I don't believe this is a problem. I'll keep trying. TY

    go into Preferences, Incoming
configure it so that Get only shows "mail from last: "...
i set mine to 1 week, the smallest value u could set is 1 day...

I usually use the Java app, but Gmail works well with Versamail.

but the best thing of all for you to do is navigate to your Gmail account on the web, click on Settings, then Forwarding and POP, then click on the radio buttion Enable "POP only for mail that arrives from now on."
