    Hi..
the shutdow of SplashBlog sucks.. i've been using it (and reviewed it for a magazine (which no longer exists) when it first came out).. thought it was uber-cool to be able to easily sync any pics on my Treo to a personal photo Blog site with one tap of a button.. but, leave it to Korportate Amerika to shut down a fun, easy-to-use service after only a couple years of existence, and with barely any notice at all..

i can't tell you HOW many cool PalmOS apps have just up and vanished when whoever created them got bought out by some other outfit.. leaving one with orphaned, registered software that doesn't even work any more..

pisses me off.. but what can ya do?.. well you can tell the companies who shut down services you like that you enjoy using (with a lead-time of just a few days).. that they just lost you as a future customer.. the only thing these outfits understand is money.. if enough people band together and let them know, it could have an effect.. or not.. stranger things have happened..

sure, "things change".. but this one isn't for the better.. IN MY OPINION..

    Thanks
    Harv

Do NOT send email to harv at treocentral dot com - it will never reach me.. forwarding from that address to my real address was hijacked in early 2008, and I can't fix it.. send me a private message instead or email me directly at my RR address..

This really sucks. First Verichat now Splashblog I wonder if SplashData could buy Splashblog back from these people. What a waste of great technology.

One of my favorite aspects of Splashblog was the RSS feed was able to be displayed on MY YAHOO as individual photos...not just links to the headline/photos.

Has anybody been able to get VOX to act similarly? I only get the Vox headline(s) on MY YAHOO......I want to see the pics!

Vox looks like a clone of SplashBlog MINUS the great Sync feature...
I tried uploading a pic, then removing it, but it continued to exist in the web site!

Furthermore, any blog posts published cannot be edited using the mobile app! What if I typo-ed SOCKS as SUCKS???

    Disappointment...

no, its great in that way. and no costs at all either (no "premium" version like so many other partly free sites)

i looked around a lot at various photo-audio-video-blogs about a year ago, and Vox was up there with the best of the free ones available at that time (Multiply is another good free one)

my only concern is that as its popularity increases, due to all its great features, the bandwidth allotted to it by sixapart seems not to be keeping pace.

I tried to log into my splashblog to download my pics like the website said to do a few days ago. But tonight Im getting this error on the page:

    Server Error in '/' Application.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Unable to load file 'splashblog'.

I hope they didnt close it early. I wouldnt be supprised though since they did not even send registered users a notice of the shut down.

It looks like the site is back up today. I'm downloading my zip now. Interestingly, you can still buy the Splashblog application from Splashdata for $29.95. I added it to my cart and I guess they would have taken the $$$

Hi.. my SplashBlog page is titled "harvblog".. i put it up when the product first came out and i reviewed it, what, two years ago?.. and i don't think i've changed it since then.. take a look at it before it goes away.. the crappy pictures were shot with my former Treo 650.. the much better pictures were shot with my Olympus C-7000 Zoom..

    Thanks

AHHHHHHH!!! I just finished posting 5 weeks of my trip through europe, my friends are still reading it. DAMN! I loved this service.

I have like ten blogs with them. I guess since I just bought ILife08 today and .mac service, I can use that.

I had a blast on SplashBlog. I loved how easy the service was to use. I even made friends with one of the developers. For the little bit of money I put into it, I really used it for all it was worth. That actually started me photoblogging.

I hope the rest of you had as good a time. And if you didn't, well Live a Little and post on the 'next' app.

Thanks Todd and the rest of the Splashblog team.

Damn! Glad I read this (and I'm a WM user).

I've been with SB since 2005 and I just got all my pics (whew!).

So disappointed. Their WM app (and the POS one too for my 650) was the best--I have no idea why no one else makes one. It was so simple and effective.

Is there a VOX Wm client? That site is so obtuse, there's no mention of mobile apps anywhere. Off to find an alternative.

Can anyone recommend an open source package that is similar. I'd be happy to use email on the Treo and I run my own apache server so I can install whatever software is needed.

Very cool, thanks! Seems to be a nice alternative but I'll have to play around with it. I also found MobiBlogr, which is a more traditional Blog system using LifeType. Unfortunately while they have a very nice free WM client I don't see one for POS.

As far as I can tell: free.

You have a 2GB monthly upload limit, which I think should be enough! lol

Update: TypePad seems like a nice alternative too with a POS client as well!

I set up a Vox account but honestly it doesn't seem as good a solution than just sending an email to a site like Flikr or Blogger. You have to purposefully go into the Vox application to blog, but the way I work is more I take a random pic, say to myself 'gee, that looks cool, lets share it' then send it in email to Blogger. Or if I'm looking through photos and decide I want to post it, just send an email to Blogger. You still can add your title and text, they just are the subject and body of the email.

The Vox site is a bit add-heavy and bloated to me, where Blogger is simple and clean looking. I guess i don't need the community features though.

Hmm. What I like about things like Vox, MobiBlogr and TypePad is that I can choose where to put the picture, tag it, set the privacy level of the picture and modify/delete posts. The Vox client is very nice for WM.

BTW, I don't have to go into the app to blog. As soon as I take a picture, Vox jumps in and asks if I want to Blog it with 'yes/no'. I can enable/disable that and even have it just publish automatically. Once again: WM version but I would think the POS could do it as well?

My only concern: Will Six-Apart kill Vox too? They own Movable Type, TypePad, LiveJournal, Typekey, etc. Which are mostly "pay" services. Vox is free and seems to have been acquired by them
