I have the same problem with the guy who wrote this post on Palm forum:

"I've been observing the conditions when this occurs with my phone. For me, it usually happens when the treo has been left in standby mode for a few hours, like overnight, then the first call it receives in the morning will be a freeze. Calls after this initial call will go through normally, but if the phone is left again for a period of time without usage, either phone mode or PDA usage, it will freeze up again on an incoming call."

Nobody came up with solution on that forum. Was this issue ever discussed in this forum? Is this a firmware issue or a software conflict issue?

FYI, I already updated the firmware and I have the following apps installed:
    - Uninstaller Manager
    - AvantGo
    - Converter
    - DocsToGo
    - Filez
    - MiniTones
    - mobileClock
    - a bunch of games on SD card

Hard reset the phone, rename your /Palm/<username>/Backup directory and then Hotsync. That'll load your PIM data but no 3rd party software.

Try it like that for a day or two...do you still experience the problem? If not, then the fault lies with your 3rd party software.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I could do that, or I could also try uninstalling my 3rd party apps one by one until the problem dissapears. But I was hoping someone has had the same problem and already figured out the cause and/or the solution.

Uninstalling apps one by one is completely different than a hard reset and reinstalling one by one.

Uninstalling an app may not necessarily remove all the files it's installed/modified.

I fixed the problem by replacing my SIM CARD

After installing the "security"-patch from the US site:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...ityupdate.html
I haven't seen this problem. I reckon it's a common fact this patch fixes that problem. However, I reckon it also introduces a new battery bug...

I have the same problem... sometimes the phone freezes with an incoming call.. and I have to reset the Treo..

I think it happens in the conditions you described... after a long period of inactivity... it freezes when receiving a call..

I'll check out the security patch, but I thought it was included in the last ATTUpdater patch thing.

Capitano, can you tell my what software you have installed in your treo?
In particular, do you have mobileClock and/or minitones?

    Thanks.

Minitones has nothing to do with the problem.

More annoyingly, mine resets when a phone call comes in. No idea what triggers it, it doesn't seem to be related to whether it's been idle for a while. Going to do a clean re-install again.

This issue has been around since day one of the 680. It is NOTHING to do with third party apps - this is the crap fed to you by Palm support. It is a bug in the 680 firmware - it is more noticable on the unlocked GSM version that the others - presumably because the call carriers have put pressure on Palm to sort it - with the GSM there is no such urgency. And we all know Palm NEVER admists there is a bug or gets around to fixing it - they just release the next product and us suckers buy it.

So, don't waste your time tracking down the freezing fault - you won't solve it. Either learn to live with it or put your 680 on eBay. Sorry.

I have to disagree with you. I was plagued by this problem on about 25% of my calls prior to replacing my SIM card. Since then I have yet to have my phone freeze up on an incoming call. If it were in fact a bug in the Treo software, I should still be affected by it.

Had the problem, turned out to be an old *** simcard. Go and get yours replaced, i promise you, you wont get the problem again.

It sounds to me as if memory is getting filled during long periods of "inactivity" (but background apps, depending upon what you are using, may be filling memory). I usually find in the morning that my cache is about 80% filled. I use meminfo to clear it out. It used to cause problems for me, but since I installed the CustomROM, I have enough that I get no resets. You might consider clearingout your memory by using the custom rom and getting rid of those apps that take up space unnecessarily.

it happened only once to my Unlocked 680 .
The 680 was only a few days old and no third party apps were installed at that time.

    it happens to me too.

I have the feeling that last time it happened when accidentally pressed both green and calendar button. After 1 minute it automatically switched to Datebk6 (which I have registered with the calendar button).

Next times I will be very careful pressing the green button in order to see if that's the problem.

btw: My sim card is brand new.

Happens on my wifes unlocked/unbranded Treo 680.

She yells at me (every gadget's malfunction is my fault ).

So no soution other to wait for a firmware upgrade ehh?

I did a hard reset, took the SD card out, didn't install any software.
After 3 days, it froze again.

The only thing I haven't tried is replacing the SIM card.
So how do I go about replacing the SIM card, and how do I make sure that the new SIM is different than the one I have?

    I'm on T-Mobile, btw.

It has nothing to do with that - it happens regardless if you use the green button or the center-button of the 5-way-navigation...
Please try installing the latest security update from Palm:

    http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBC...Case=Obj(4181)

This did it for me - haven't seen it since (weeks ago)! And before, I saw it every three-four calls...

This is an OLD problem. I had 2 680's several months ago. NOTHING fixed it. After hard resets, new SIM cards and even replacement 680's I just gave up and eBayed them.

BTW, there's an old and long thread about this somewhere around here.
